There’s been a shortage of sun this week, but this morning we have some light. I’m still reading Bellweather Rhapsody but I’ve spent a lot of the weekend listening to Brené Brown and in a completely different vibe- ended up binging the entire season of Dead to Me on Netflix. It’s been a wonderfully mixed bag content-wise!‍♀️ What stories have you been sinking into this weekend? .. I’ve been thinking about my creativity a lot lately. Largely influenced by the amount of poems I’m reading and dissecting with my son for his GCSE revision and the meanings and the themes in novels such as To Kill a Mockingbird and Macbeth. I chat through these things on my stories. I may go off topic every now and again but as with the poetry I’m trying to find meaning within my own writing and creativity.

April recap: 13 books • Favorite: The Goldfinch. It’s now in my top 3 all time favorite books. • Lot, Gingerbread, and Trust Exercise were in a league of their own with such unique writing styles. • The House Children and I’m Saying NO! were my first two @booksparks pop-up campaigns. I was so excited to be selected for those and have another few in the works. Stay tuned! • Memoirs: Hunger and Saturday’s Child. I thoroughly enjoyed both books and have made it a priority to read more in this genre. *Be on the lookout for an giveaway upcoming giveaway for Saturday’s Child*. • Three audiobooks: Billion Dollar Whale, Circe, and The Night Tiger. Circe was hands down my favorite! • And last but certainly not least: Our Book Club for Introverts pick, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Not necessarily a book I would have picked on my own but I really enjoyed it. I’ve been really enjoying reading a short story collection or two every month. I’ve said it before but this is a medium I never really explored before bookstagram. Just another thing bookstagram has brought to my life. That, and a lighter wallet because I can’t stop buying books . Thanks to the lovely Jaclyn @sixminutesforme for passing along her ARC of Lot to me. Jaclyn speaks very highly of this collection and now I can completely understand why. . Lot is a short story collection set in Houston, with each story focusing on a different family or set of characters in different parts of the city. I thought this short story collection was very clever in the way it’s structured, and the common thread of Houston running through each one made the collection very cohesive. Washington presents very important subjects such as race and sexuality, and the coming of age narrative in the majority of the stories was incredibly strong. . Hello! Reading update: Making my way through Beautiful Revolutionary and really enjoying it. Last year I read The Girls by Emma Cline (prebookstagram so no photographic evidence of this exists ) and I remember being so excited to pick that up. It was a fictionalization of the Manson family so obviously I was already hooked. However, I ended up really disappointed. I felt like the author didn’t go in depth enough with the story and I didn’t end up caring about the main character at all. When I saw that some people had compared Beautiful Revolutionary to The Girls, I was nervous that I’d end up disappointed again. . I can’t speak for certain because I haven’t finished, but I don’t think that’s going to happen this time around. Already the author has shown she really put a lot of research into this novel and I can feel the magnetism that Jones exhibits through the authors words. . I hope to finish this today or tomorrow since I’m enjoying a few days off work now! Nothing like being home. I travel the world but home is still my favorite place.
