How did you meet your best friend? It still surprises me that some of the closest and dearest people in my life are those I met online through Bookstagram. Today I’m partnering with @harperkid to share the paperback release of “PAX”, a story of friendship and kindness about a fox and his boy. . Synopsis: (#FindPax) Pax was only a kit when his family was killed, rescued by “his boy,” Peter, from abandonment and certain death. Now the war front approaches, and when Peter’s father enlists, Peter has to move in with his grandfather. Far worse than being forced to leave home is the fact that Pax can’t go. Peter obeys his stern father and agrees to release Pax back into the wild. But before Peter makes it through even one night under his grandfather’s roof, regret and duty spur him to action; he sneaks out into the night, determined to find his beloved friend. This is the story of Peter, Pax, and their independent struggles to return to each other in the face of war. (Book by bestselling and award-winning author Sara Pennypacker and illustrator @JonKlassen. You can check out FindPax.com to learn more about the book and awards it has received.) . My husband actually just bought a copy of “Pax” last month and read it, and so it’s been on my list to read because he wants to discuss it with me. The new paperback edition has bonus content (discussion guide + author interview) and French flaps. We generally don’t keep doubles of books, but my husband shelved his copy on his shelf and this new paperback with the bonus content is settled onto my daughter’s shelves for her to encounter when she’s a bit older. Some times you have to change your book keeping rules for a book that’s dear. ‍♀️#booknerdproblems.

Happy hump day, bookworms! What are you reading this week? I've finally picked up my copy of American Gods that has been sitting on my shelf for eons! I'm about a third of the way through and I'm enjoying it. It's kind of fun to spot the differences between the book and the show . . . . . #bookstagram #becauseofreading #bookster #bookblogger #bookreviews #libraryofinstagram #instareading #instaread #bookdragon #igbooks #ilovebooks #bookgram #readinglife #dumbledoresbookisharmy #bookphotography #booksonbooks #booknookstagram #bookcommunity #bookishinstagram #readersofinstagram #booksofinstagram #bookrec #bookaesthetic #bookstoread #booknerdigans #readmore #allthebooks #bookgeek #bibliophile #ilovereading

– I’ve always set a standard on my Instagram that I should only post the most perfect photos on here, that I shouldn’t post spontaneous iPhone photos taken by friends as we laugh on city streets. But, I’m done with all that. Why not mix together professional photos with ones taken on a whim that are slightly out-focused from the giggles escaping us. Why not show the poised and the impromptu photos together? – : @rockzanaflores #NewYorkLike #Spontaneous #HappyLife

‍How much do you think Bookstagram has influenced you? . For me my main change apart from reading more has been my taste in the type of pictures I like and take. This picture is one I took maybe 2 years ago and at that time I was really happy with it. . But if you ask me now, I probably wouldn’t prefer taking such pictures anymore. I prefer a more natural sort of look, you could say pictures that have a human touch to them. That’s why I post so many cafe pictures . ‍What about you? . #BetterReadsChallenge 93/365 (link in bio) . #bookstagram

When I was a kid I had it all figured out. I was going to have four children, maybe six, depending on how cute the first ones came out and I would make it my life’s work to teach them about life and ensure a pleasant and meaningful existence for them. It’s easy have fixed ideas when you know very little. Feminist discourse has been ambivalent on the topic of motherhood over the years. Due to its range, the movement has often included groups of people who believe that choosing to have children in itself contributes to the continued exclusion of women from public life and their confinement to the private sphere. Today, the general consensus seems to be that women shouldn’t have to choose between professional accomplishment and family life and that the appropriate conditions must be provided to ensure that those women who wish to have children can do so without feeling they have to sacrifice their individual existence. But what about those who don’t? Lorrie Moore’s ‘Terrific Mother’ tells the story of Adrienne, a young woman whose involvement in a baby’s accidental death leads her to believe she should not have children. Moore does a great job at highlighting the way in which the concepts of motherhood and femininity are inextricably intertwined. Once Adrienne decides she is not fit to be a mother she ceases to be a woman in the eyes of the community and becomes a pariah. Another issue that struck me in the story is the idea that, should a woman decide not to have children, she must justify the choice through a brilliant career. The fact that you simply don’t feel ready or want that kind of responsibility is not enough. Feminism aside (if that is even possible), I always found the way in which society has made parenthood into a “thing normal people do” strange. I often wonder if people with little to no parental inclination who choose to have children because that’s what you’re meant to do with your life ever regret it. Surely some do, otherwise we’d never hear about those outrageous cases of child neglect and abuse. So then, why are the people who decide not to have children the bad guy?

#LaFineDellEstate #SerenaPatrignanelli #NNEditore • Da oggi in libreria. ☀️☕️
