Butterfly, when was the last time you sat down and gave your child(ren) your undivided attention? No phone, tablet/iPad, or tv
It’s time to get back to the basics and really engage with your child(ren).
Here’s a couple things you can do.
1. Read. When was the last time you read a book with your child(ren)? This is a great time for bonding.
2. Plan a trip. Let your child give their input. This will show your child(ren) that you value their input.
3. Play a board game. What was your favorite board game growing up? Buy it and show your child(ren) your skills. ♀️Try these things this summer and engage/connect. This will show your child(ren) that you aren’t too busy. Tag a Single Mom in the comments.

I posted this book a couple days ago in my stories and received so many messages about it I thought I’d just post it here. “The Sound of Silence” @katrinagoldsaito and gorgeously illustrated by @juliaskuo is one of my favourite books- for children or adults- and it’s about a little boy looking for silence in the world around him. It takes place in Tokyo, one of the busiest cities on earth, and silence is hard for him to find. It’s beautifully done, intelligent, deep and a book I’ve read a thousand times. It’s wonderful for opening discussions on silence, mindfulness and meditation. And as always, I am surprised at the depth of conversation small children will have when given the chance. Have you read it? What are some books on silence that you love?
A BIG THANKYOU ! To everybody who has already purchased a copy of my children’s book Just As You Are on pre-order! Last night I spent time replying to you all and I’m SO, so grateful ❤️☺️ Copies have already been ordered to USA , Australia and here in the UK .
I am taking pre-orders, which means that I’ll be receiving the FIRST batch of books and will be personally sending them to you myself in September ❤️☺️. I can also add a little note into the book if you want that.
At the moment you can message us directly for the link and by this weekend it will be on my website ☺️❤️ Thankyou , Thankyou ❤️ What a fun process this really is ❤️☺️

Books, children and dyslexia ————————————————————————————
In case you didn’t already know I love reading. I’ve read with each of my children but my eldest in particular does not like books. He has not had a good experience throughout school with reading. He is dyslexic and he has never liked fictitious stories. Throughout his primary school years he HAD to read certain books and ever so sadly it has totally created a hate relationship with reading. ————————————————————————————
For him, being diagnosed as dyslexic, felt like he was being told he was stupid. On the contrary, he is everything that is clever. He has a unique intelligence of so many things far beyond my understanding. He has an incredibly scientific mind and is amazing at engineering tasks.
————————————————————————————
Sadly, this negativity had a similar effect with my other boys as their reading became directed by school requirements. However for my two youngest boys this was enormously improved when @dwalliams started writing books for children and they began to read, laugh and enjoy them. They have now read all of them and I highly recommend them
————————————————————————————
Although this all changed again once Secondary school arrived and the avoidance of reading reappeared as it is ‘not cool’ I have always told my children “you do not hate reading, you just haven’t found the right book.” This is something I so passionately believe. I have trained, studied and worked with so many dyslexic learners and it is sadly a similar journey for so many. I have so often heard the comment of hating reading and it really upsets me So for our Christmas Eve boxes my youngest boys got a new book, one that I spent a long time searching for and matching to their personalities and interests.
————————————————————————————
I am so pleased to say that one of my boys was very quickly gripped on his Christmas book (Bodyguard Hostage) and he has since finished it and now youngest son is reading it with hubby waiting to read it after.
————————————————————————————
Do you enjoy reading?
Do you /did you read with your children?
Are you dyslexic?
Please tell me about your journey with books
I firmly believe in teaching our children useful things in life. School is great , but having common sense and knowledge of the REAL world is priceless! Plus, you are never to young to learn about heavy machinery & trucks .
