I think I might’ve spent half the session on the actual ice— as in, I fell a lot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I know the reason my butt loves the ice right now is because I am finally stepping out of my comfort zone and attempting doubles— something I haven’t done in 14 years, but I can’t help but feel discouraged today. I used to be able to do double jumps in my sleep. They were easy. I feel like you’d never know it from the way I skated today. I got really frustrated and was just like “Is this it? Will I never get these back?” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I have to keep telling myself that the fact I’m even OUT there on the ice again is an accomplishment... and I WILL get my jumps back. It’s just going to take time. So instead of being upset after today’s practice, I’m going to focus on what I can do during my time off the ice in order to better prepare for the next session, so... TIP OF THE DAY: Here’s a wall set up exercise for double and triple salchow! I videoed it in slow-mo so you can see all the details. Let me know if you enjoy slow-mo tutorials so I can make more. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1️⃣ I like to keep my 3-turn entrance very narrow and controlled. Notice my freeleg stays behind me throughout the outside and inside edge. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2️⃣ Once I have a steady inside edge that I can continually glide backwards on, it is time for me to now take my freeleg close to the yellow part of the boards as I bend my right knee to come meet my left knee. I’ve been wanting to try out more complex jump entries, so here I am building up stability in this new loop entry I learned. I did actually go for the jump in the second video (excuse the terrible framing) but I was way too dizzy . Loops are feeling a lot more consistent these days - I think I’ve finally gotten the flow of them.
