A lot of people don’t know what a spinal fusion surgery is.....I know I didn’t until I found out that I had to have one!. So here is a quick video showing how they attach the rods and screws to straighten the spine. It really helped me to see what was going to be done to me I hope it can help others to I am now fused T2-L1

This is my spine This is what I am working with in my Yoga for Scoliosis practice. However, ever since I started my yoga journey, I more and more feel the every day changes of my back.
Through yoga I have gained (and am still gaining) awareness about where my bones are, where my muscles are, where my organs are, etc. Therefore, whenever it changes the slightesed, I tend to notice this. This is exciting and frustrating at the same time. Because I get to a discover and learn a whole lot about my body, but also that I need to change my practice all the time. I can't just 'do' yoga.
I do have to say that there is a lot of evolvement in my practice. Some poses do get easier and faster to adapt to my scoliosis. And then this opens doors to new or deeper poses. Once the rabbit hole is open, there is only one way to go. So let's just enjoy the ride and see where my scoliosis takes me

Scoliosis Awareness Month! My first scoliosis surgery was in 2017. There are several types of rods that are used, but my current rods are called MAGEC. They truly are magic! Besides making me very straight, they are lengthened with magnets outside my body to make me taller. My next surgery will be fixed rods and a full spinal fusion. June kicks off Scoliosis Awareness Month! When I was born I already had rib fractures and spine compression. Spinal compression fractures caused wedging in my spine and gravity just caused my spine to curve. When I was 2 years old I had a curve in by back that needed bracing to help hold off surgery until I was older and stronger. On my left is my very first hard brace and on my right my very last! There’s a few newbies on here so I just wanted to introduce myself and reinforce what my account is about….. .

I’m a 23 year former athlete, currently working at a financial services start-up in central London.
My aim with this small (but growing) platform is to promote a cause that I believe is far greater than us all – health and wellness It is something that I have been experimenting in for over 8 years, and my hope is that this platform will inspire other’s to lead a similar lifestyle!

My core belief is that the food we eat determines not just our physical appearance, but our mental wellbeing, our emotional state, our mood, the way we think, our ability to prevent disease (I have cured so many health issues purely by changing my diet)…..the list is endless
.
Since starting full time work, I realised the challenge of maintaining this sort of lifestyle with very limited time, and on a limited budget…but I’m here to tell you that is ABSOLUTELY possible!! My hope is that through this platform, you will be able to incorporate some of the tips and tricks I have learned along the way☺️
.
I follow a gluten free, dairy free and on the whole I try to limit the refined sugars that I eat to only weekends (5/2 rational). I’m not technically vegan, but I don’t eat huge amounts of meat so a lot of the recipe’s that I post are vegan… I consider myself to be ‘flexitarian,’ albeit predominantly plant based!!
.
I also love to work out, and feel that I have a very good knowledge base gained from the world class fitness trainers I had access to during my time playing tennis. Personally, I love to do HIIT based strength sessions and interval sprint sessions, which I will start to post at a later date – good luck
