Somehow, we have managed to keep between 6.2 and 7.5%, largely due to the fact that he was only 6.9 at diagnosis. . Today, Dexcom Clarity gave an estimated A1C of 7.6 and I was dreading clinic as this would have been our highest ever. . So imagine my surprise with 7.0 (53) . Very pleased, but, as always, there is room for improvement and we are going for 6.5 in 3 months time. . Sneaking food as a Type One Diabetic... We need some help you guys, we have been noticing more and more that Nevaeh has been sneaking food at school. I know in my heart that she just wants to eat food and be normal. I get that so much and when we ask her she does tell us(for the most part). Well she’s been going crazy high lately in the morning even with a no carb breakfast. So I told Eth we needed to adjust her basal rate(thankfully he didn’t) so she wouldn’t sky rocket... and then today she was perfect and even on the low side. So we asked her if she was sneaking again and I looked in her backpack and almost all her candy we have in there just in case she is low was practically gone The thing is I get nervous that we bump up her basal and she doesn’t sneak food and then she goes crazy low and even could pass out or die. Sadly this is a serious situation. If you are #t1d or a #t1dmom how do you confront this situation and let them know it’s serious without them feeling guilty for eating food. Having #T1D isn’t easy for anyone, let alone a someone that is jumping time zones + sleeping in a different hotel bed every night for weeks at a time. I love that I get to see the world, but sometimes it is hard. Fortunately, it’s manageable with help from tools such as the @Walgreens app that reminds me about my prescription refill needs…. despite my busy schedule. Thanks to @Walgreens for the wake-up call. “My site changes in one month. The needle goes in my skin and then I take it out. The plastic tube stays under the skin”. I posted something similar to this a few months ago showcasing the amount of insulin injections a Diabetic takes in one year, and it was very real seeing a visual representation of it. This is the same thing, but with site changes for a Diabetic who uses an insulin pump. Eye opening for sure. Posts like these are not meant to guilt anyone, but to raise awareness for Type 1 Diabetes. These posts show the reality of a T1D.
