For those who are worried about Chinese food. ☺️ . I’ll start by saying that Chinese people and most of the expats don’t normally cook. They just order something or go to cafes or restaurants. Usually it costs from 10¥ (less than 1.5€). If you go somewhere you can get noodles (15-30¥), rice of all kinds (12-30¥), somewhat of veggies (they’re mostly super spicy or just cooked with noodles/rice, ergo they’re not fresh veggies), (30-50¥), (35-60¥), etc. . The food is not always hot and spice . Depends on the province. For example, Guangdong is one of the main provinces in China and there are lots of foreigners, so food is not as there. . If you want to go gourmet, you can get pasta (80-100¥), risotto (80-100¥), salads (60-100¥) and all these delicious foods in fancy restaurants.

It seems like New Year’s celebrations are still going on in China! You can see a lot of decorations hanging on the walls and ceilings in almost every cafe and restaurant. And, of course, pigs in every park!

A lot of people have been asking us about the teaching process in China. How do we teach without knowing the kids’ language? Most of the kindergartens and training centres have Chinese assistants, who can help foreign teachers during the lessons. If need be, they translate some things to kids. In some training centres there aren’t any assistants but co-teachers. Frankly speaking, they do most of our work. They prepare almost all materials for our classes (you can help, of course, but not everybody does that), the discipline is mostly on them, though it depends on the age of our students. . One of our teachers says: “We can switch to Chinese from time to time with the youngest learners (2-3 y.o.). With the older kids (5-8 y.o.) we mainly use translation when we talk about discipline. For example, when we want to introduce a new rule to them. With 10-12 y.o. we try not to use Chinese at all, because this will just make them lazy eventually.))) . Those kids, who attend our classes for more than 2-3 weeks, already know the structure of our program. They know our on-board games and stuff. If we want to explain something to them, knowing that they won’t understand verbal explanation, we use gestures. If we want to play a game they don’t know or remember, we just play the first round with Echo, my co-teacher. And after that the kids know what we want from them. . The kids here are smart! They’re used to being in English environment for 60/90 minutes without their native language. Surely, they speak Chinese during the classes from time to time, but who doesn’t?”
