Trans people who live rurally often live at the intersection of hyper visibility amongst their rural neighbors and hyper isolation from other trans folks or supportive services. The @lgbtmap project just released some really helpful research. It showed that due to smaller and scattered populations in rural areas, rural trans folks who express any kind of gender diversity will be more noticeable than if they were living in an urban area. This affects everything from public safety to access to services to developing relationships where you live. my #TDOV post is 2 days late just like last year.... in anticipation, I really wanted to take do a super cute lil mini photoshoot with my senior portrait from high school, but in the 2 years that I’ve been socially transitioning (my HRT bday is June 20!), I’ve learned so much about myself and my womanhood that I couldn’t just NOT post about it at all. . . As fun as 2nd puberty is, documenting and noticing all the physical changes (“WHY ARE MY NIPPLES SO ITCHY”); reflecting on the emotional and mental development has been so much more substantial for me. One of the biggest blessings/curses that I’ve experienced throughout my transition has been being able to experience emotions on a completely different level. It’s almost like seeing colors that you’ve never noticed before, in detail that you were once blind to. . . Through all the ups and downs of this journey, I have learned to love the beautiful chaos that my life has become. Including the fact that I never take any cute pics (cough thirst traps cough) to post, it makes my heart swell to look back on how far I’ve come on the inside. One of the things that killed me as a teen was that I couldn't wear makeup or feminine things without being perceived as a girl. Even if I didn't care about being misgendered, feminine clothing would only emphasize the parts of me that I was dysphoric about. Happy Trans EVERY Day of Visibility! ️‍ I decided to upload today instead of yesterday or the day before because #TDOV should not just be celebrated on the 31st of March - it should be celebrated 365 days a year! I decided to recreate a photo that I uploaded back in January 2017, because at the time, even though I had already commenced HRT (hormone replacement therapy) and started undergoing laser and electrolysis hair removal, I still had to shave my face daily... whether it was because of actual hair growth, dysphoria just for my own peace of mind. This photo may be “confronting” for some of the cis people who follow me, but this is a real and honest image of what MANY trans* women have to do on a daily basis... and I want visible for all my trans* sisters who endure the daily chore of having to shave their faces and bodies, no matter how far along they are in their own personal transition and gender identity journey. I know the struggle is very real, because I have also experienced this struggle... but we are all in this together! #transdayofvisibility

Yesterday was Trans day of Visibility - I struggle to find my words so this post is late but regardless - I want to acknowledge that I have the privilege of being “invisible” & blending into the cis world, which many of my trans siblings do not. I choose to be visible (when it’s safe for me to do so) because I want our identities to be normalised, I want the world to know that we exist & that we always have. So, happy TDOV to all the trans, non binary and GNC angels out there (visible or not) - you are a blessing to this world not a burden ⚪️ #trans #tdov
