Psychologists and psychiatrists both deal with helping people get to a better mental and emotional state. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Psychologists focus on diagnosing psychological disorders as well as treating patients with psychotherapy and behavioral interventions. They are required to have either a Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) or a PhD in Physology, or sometimes an Doctor of Education (EdD). They also go through 1-2 years of supervised clinical practice before taking a state liscensure exam. They cannot prescribe medications to their clients. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Psychiatrists are medical doctors with a D.O. or M.D. They go through an additional 3-4 year residency after medical school that specializes in psychiatry. Like psychologists, psychiatrists are liscensed by states to practice psychotherapy. However, unlike psychologists, they are able to prescribe medication for mental disorders, which is their main focus of practice. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Psychologists and psychiatrists often work together to provide a combined treatment of behavior and drug therapy to give their clients the best care.

It’s important to discuss emotions & self reflect from a young age • This program helps kids regulate their emotions & actions using a Cognitive Behaviour approach to describe their level of alertness. It teaches skills e.g., calming techniques, cognitive strategies & a toolbox of methods to use in zones • • ❤️ RED ZONE: Heightened alertness & intense emotions where child has lost control & unable to rationalise e.g., anger & explosive behaviour. YELLOW ZONE: Heightened alertness but more control e.g., stress, nervous, anxiety, frustration. GREEN ZONE: Calm alertness where kids are ready to learn & have appropriate interactions with others e.g., happy & content.
