Hi, so before I distract myself from cleaning and doing yoga instead, just wanted to get this off my chest. . What a lot of people don’t realize, is a lot of trans women (myself included) are insecure about their “mid-face” length. The reason being is because normally one would associate long mid-faces with masculinity (more square, pronounced jaw, further gap between lips and nose, etc.). But even so, recently I’ve been gendered correctly so often, that it almost doesn’t bother me anymore. and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me smile to myself every single time it happens! :) like legitimately so many happy tears have been shed the past month just because of people using “miss” and “her/hers”. It’s amazing, and us trans folks are way too hard on ourselves and we need to realize that because it’s not healthy and actually makes passing more difficult because of lack of confidence. . That said, it finally, FINALLY, is starting to feel real for once, with myself seeing a woman in the mirror, most everyone now sees me as a woman as well (I hope atleast!). I’d be lying if I said it hasnt drastically helped me come out of my shell and embrace my true, female self even more ❤️ . . . Also, before you all freak out, I’m reorganizing my bathroom lol I pulled that stuff from under the sink. A somewhat shocking assumption I hear about myself is that I’m confident and that’s a trait that people envy. Perhaps I am now, but since I used to have horrible self-esteem, the statement still catches me off guard. I was the person who never looked anyone in the eye, who has neck issues to this day for always walking around with my head down, and I let my own self-doubt stop me from doing so many things I actually wanted to do. Put me next to almost anyone in a room and I would have felt inferior. I still find myself feeling imperfect and I quickly point out flaws, specifically in candid photos of myself, but I’m challenging myself by posting anyway and allowing people to take them more often. In 50 years, I won’t look back and think my smile looks dumb, my hair is messy, or my calf looks stubby, I’ll remember the moment the photo captured and what was causing the smile. For my trans followers specifically, I know photos before/during transition can be triggering or uncomfortable, but I truly think it’s worth documenting your journey even if only for yourself. I know people who’ve literally wiped every existing photograph of themselves out of existence or don’t allow loved ones to take photos of them, and I worry one day that’ll be a regret. I believe one of the biggest factors in my past feelings of inferiority was being perceived as male, not an inherent self-esteem issue, and seeing myself through transition in photos and leaving that old self in the past has been so freeing. My advice is to face the discomfort now so you can look back to see how far you’ve come, it’s especially beneficial when you feel yourself slipping into a negative headspace and it’s honestly been a source of the confidence I apparently now project. The Monet dress. The first dress I fell in love with. I found it on an early shopping expedition, not long after @unexpectedtrails had figured me out. Today’s post is a little bit different… This one is about body positivity. I get a lot of requests asking for “sexy“ pictures, so I set out to take some. I did my level best trying to put together the sexiest outfit I could from my closet and getting my make up just right. I didn’t like a single picture that I took… Not one. I am very self-conscious about the shape of my body, and I normally dress to downplay things I perceive as my weaknesses. I, like many of us, need to understand that while my shape may not align exactly with what is often marketed as beautiful or sexy, it doesn’t make me any less so.
