Yesterday's project: making a BIG batch of reishi tincture! I like having glycerite and tincture options available to match the needs and preferences of different people. This is just the first step - I'll decoct the mushrooms in water and a little vinegar after a month of soaking, and then combine the decoction back with the alcohol, leaving the total preparation at 25% alcohol and extracting the widest possible variety of constituents. I'm looking ahead to calling in vitality with this amazing mushroom!

✨ Wild-harvested Usnea ✨ I bring Usnea home from the forest and gently wash with Spring water. I dry some for healing tea and tincture the rest (my favorite method is double extraction for this herb). Usnea is antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal. It has been widely studied and is very effective. I use it most for urinary tract infections and upper respiratory infections. Usnea can be found on the ground after high winds and/or heavy rains. It is most respectful to harvest on the ground as it is a slow-growing lichen. It also makes for a glorious treasure hunt when hiking! There are two main "types" of CBD: full spectrum (or "whole plant") extracts and isolates.⁣ .⁣⠀ Isolates are exactly what they sound like: CBD isolated from all the other compounds found in its original cannabis plant, with some products testing as high as 99% pure CBD. While we might think this is the best, most effective form of CBD due to its purity, research from Canada has actually shown the reverse is true. .⁣⠀ Full spectrum or "whole plant" CBD contains the full range of cannabinoids, terpenes, and other phytonutrients found in a cannabis plant. While these products' THC content still has to be under 0.3% in order to be shipped nationwide and therefore cannot get you "high," having the full range of cannabinoids from a plant provides what's known as the entourage effect.⁣ .⁣⠀ This is a concept that states all the compounds in cannabis work best when used together and boost healing to higher levels than single, or isolated, compounds alone. ⁣ .⁣⠀ If you take a look at the above picture, you can see the spectrum of colors that a CBD tincture can have.
