I am addicted to #matchbox you know. Here I am just about to head off to USA for a 2 week trip taking in the Albuquerque Gathering & exploring Colorado & New Mexico. I had been winding down my purchases before going but could not resist one last little item. The #matchbox  CY-1 Convoy Car Transporter doesn't tend to pop up for sale all that often. As a kid I had the first release in red which ran from 1982-1987, but didn't own either of the other 2. This is the second release in yellow with a yellow & dark blue trailer unit which ran from 1988-1991. The third is light blue with yellow & light blue trailer which ran from 1992-1997. & That's before getting into the smaller variations. Take this yellow cab. Wait, I need to get it out. Opening the box in picture 2 is easy & out comes the model. Picture 3 & after 30 odd years the car transporter is finally free. Strictly speaking this is a 1988 issue. It is made in Macau & has chrome exhaust stacks. In 1989 the chrome disappeared from the stack & in 1990 production moved to Thailand. One day I will get those too. Plus the later blues & more variations on the earlier red. So now to do what it is designed to do. Transport some cars. As I'm about to head to USA I thought I would utilize some brand new iconic USA vehicles (Camaro, Mustang, Wrangler). Pictures 5-8 show them all being loaded up 1 by 1 & showing off the full complement at the end. Don't they look great all loaded up & raring to go. Of course I could have gone a different route by using some brand new castings of vehicles from the 1980s (as seen in picture 9 - '80 Merc Wagon, '82 Datsun 280ZX, '85 Porsche 911 Rally) as the convoy itself is from the 1980s. I didn't do a full loading up again, limited picture space in this post. But can you tell I'm having fun.
