Probably what walking into the gates of heaven looks like. This is a classic Instagram photo in Bali. As much as I veer away from crowded tourists spots, this one’s an experience on its own. You have to climb some steep mountain road to get to this part of the temple. We were quiet and the only thing we can hear are our labored breathing, which as soon as we caught, cracked us into unstoppable bursts of laughter. And then you get whisked with holy water when you get to the entrance. A long queue has already formed even before we got there. A line of heterogeneous crowd from all backgrounds and nationalities— all giddy to be photographed in the exact same spot where probably thousands, if not millions, of tourists have already had a variation of, if not similar, photos in. You wait an hour and you’re given 3-5 quick shots. You have to know your 3 poses before your turn so you don’t panic and annoy the impatient people in line. Everyone’s nervous, you can tell, especially the obligated poor boyfriends who had to endure and tolerate their girls’ cheesy poses directions. Imagine being in an audition of Asia’s next top model and all the auditioners are watching you model in front of all of them. It’s uncomfortable. Despite that, it was fun to watch everybody— couples, best friends, families, and expecting parents— pose for strangers. Some funny, some heartwarming poses that induce unanimous awwwwwws amongst the spectators-in-line. It was a thrill, to say the least.

For a 360-degree experience in travel, mix and match low-end local to high-end splurges. That spot right there was our crazy rich asians moment. We were literally surrounded by in-house guests who sleep in P24k/night basic rooms. They don long dresses and feathered sleeves to dine or drink. We savored the rhythm of the waves splashing against the rocks underneath our seats. Our view—that vast turquoise water and the clouds that tell us stories. As always with this bunch, our dusk echoed with laughters, wisdom, and gratefulness. It was a beautiful Saturday. This is what we work hard for. Life and living.

Up close and personal with the ripples of sand at Mesquite Sand Dunes. We got lucky with a few days of 20mph winds in Death Valley. When we went to the dunes early the next morning, the waves and ripples had all be reconstructed over night. They were in pristine shape for our soon to be foot prints. I’d like to work on shooting more abstracts/patters of landscapes up close.
