A lot of people have asked how I keep my twists in for so long and how my twistouts last for so long. My twistouts are more defined and will last longer if I wear my twists for more than a few days. I’ve figured out what works for my scalp inbetween full washdays—keep reading if you’d like to know more. BUT FIRST I want to point out that everyone’s hair/scalp is different and we should all do what works for US as individuals. But, I thought I’d share what works for me, since I know it’s probably weird that I just leave my hair alone for weeks at a time. . (1) On washday, I wash with a mix of a little ACV and the Trader Joe’s tea tree tingle shampoo...this helps me with itching and dandruff. *swipe* to see. . (2) Once or twice a week I apply a light oil mix to my scalp in an applicator bottle—I mix avocado, almond, grapeseed, a little JCBO. This helps to keep my scalp moisturized and relieves itching. . . (3) Peppermint oil. Be careful because it can really burn if you put too much! Always dilute it with a carrier oil (google for a list). Especially after a work out, or if my scalp is really irritating me, peppermint oil eliminates all itchiness and gives my scalp a cool, clean feeling. I usually apply it with a cuetip, which helps me to really get to my scalp through my twists or my twistout. . . In an ideal world, I’d wash my hair every week. But for me that takes way too much time, and is too much manipulation for my hair. I’m lazy and impatient and that’s not what works for me lol. I like to wash every two to three weeks (usually three)—twists for a week or two, then unravel for a twistout, then wash and repeat. I kept my last set of twists in for almost three weeks because I could not deal with my hair and studying for 8-10 hours a day.
