Situations when my insurance provider makes me go “Huh, are you kidding me?!?” My insurance provider refusing to cover my insulin My insurance provider only allowing me 3 blood sugar test strips a day My insurance provider requiring prior authorization for my CGM transmitter but not my sensors Are they trying to slowly kill me or just make my life more difficult than it needs to be? Having to prove that I’m type 1 diabetic and need my meds every year does nothing but steal time from my life and add yet another paper trail to my insurance file. I need my insulin every day to survive and I need to manage my 6-10 daily insulin doses as well. I need up to 10 test strips daily to do so successfully (when not using my CGM). If I miscalculate a dose, I could OD and die. If I consistently under-dose, my diabetes will be mismanaged and I could develop diabetes- related complications over time. For now, I am stuck in an endless battle and long phone calls (and I don’t enjoy elevator music that much) with my insurance company. What a waste of time and energy!! Can a Type 1 Join the military? The answer is NO! It's an unfortunate but necessary law that individuals with diabetes are immediately disqualified from enlisting into the military or any government armed forces. Although there are many arguments against discrimination, the law is in place for a reason. It all boils down to safety. And not just safety of the Diabetic individual, but his fellow soldiers as well. There are not fast acting carbs readily available at every stop in case of a hypoglycemic event while serving in active duty. Not to mention, where do you store and how do you travel with supplies and insulin? Lastly, every soldier has a job. And much of this job includes following rigid procedures so that you are keeping your surrounding soldiers safe and out of harm's way. Type 1 Thursday • • Decided that every Thursday I will post a short little video with something diabetes related. Today was day 10 of my old dexcom so time for a site change(thank God because the old sensor caused me so many problems‍♀️) • • This site hurt a little bit and there was quite a bit of bleeding but hey.....bleeders are readers right? Hopefully the next 10 days are successful with this fresh site!
