Have you ever felt the that the thing you’re creating might not be right?
⠀
Or, that you think you’re on the right path but the results have proved that you’re possibly failing?
⠀
I learned over time that it doesn’t matter what your client thinks is right or what you think is right, as long as what you’re creating is about your users’ needs, (not what they want as this is something very different!) then you’re on the right track.
⠀
I’m not saying that your guaranteed success, but it’s a step in the right direction — rather than creating in a black hole, with no edges or light to guide you. .
⠀
A tool that can align your team on who it is your creating value for are called; Empathy Maps. And today’s post I wanted to highlight some key phases of this practice and I hope they can help you in understanding and save you as well as they have myself

Any feedback? Let me know in the comments

8 principles to selecting perfect colour palettes
⚡️Obviously you can turn to tools to find palettes but as a designer it’s crucial to understand color theory and how palettes work.
In this article I start by sharing the various type of color on the color wheel. So often designers misuse terms like shade and fail to ever use tint or saturation when talking about color.
From here I jump into the various palette options. Analogue, complementary, Triadic and I didn’t have space to share the split complimentary but I will in my color book
Hope it helps kick start any color UI decisions in your team
8 gradient UI color rules
Gradients normally make designers a little uncomfortable. They are bold and a little scary at times.
1️⃣ There are various types of gradients to learn. Linear, radial and angular. It’s crucial to know the difference for your components.
2️⃣ Randomly pairing colors for gradients May be fun but avoid complimentary pairing.
3️⃣ Transparency is a secret gradient weapon. Use transparency of the same color to create awesome fades.
4️⃣ always look to nature for inspiration!
These 8 rules should help you create level up and consistent gradients in your #ui
8 principles to color contrast accessibility
1️⃣ Accessibility is normally ignored or left till last during any mock-up or prototyping phase. Always be thinking, is this accessible to everyone?
2️⃣ I recommend using the plugin Stark to check for contrast on your components.
3️⃣ These 8 principles are targeting common contrast mistakes designers make. For me, these 8 components are normally barriers to accessibility.
4️⃣ Try to use color contrast cleverly for your states. Flick to grouped buttons for an obvious example of this.
✋Hands up if that last mock-up didn’t pass the 4.5:1 contrast ratio? Tag any colleagues who need more contrast in their pastel UI...
8 color rules to your UI
Color is huge and more often than not designers use too many colours across their UI.
When it comes to your colour palette it’s best to categorise your colours into brand, functional, feedback, accent and neutral
Interactions are better created from a layer than a close shade to that component. I’ll cover this in building a design system.
An awesome app to check accessibility of your colour is Stark. Always check the contrast and colourblind accessibility!
These 8 rules are the first of this weeks articles on color
How to build case studies?
———
Case study is basically another «design project», but how to build it?
First of all, think about your viewer!
———
➡️ TELL A STORY!
———
To make it easier for you, I’ll explain the «Case study» on the common storytelling technique:
♦️«Three Act Structure»
Every story is made of 3 parts:
——
1️⃣ Setup
2️⃣ Confrontation
3️⃣ Resolution
1️⃣ Setup (context)
———
What was this project about?
Who’s a client?
Who’s a hero (user)?
What were their goals?
What was your role and your plan?
2️⃣ Confrontation (process and thinking)
———
What was your user research process?
What were your insights?
How did these insights informed your solution?
What were your solution hypothesis that you wanted to test?
3️⃣ Resolution (testing and results)
———
How did the user testing went?
What were the detected issues?
How did you work with issues?
What were the project results and success metrics?
———
➡️ Do you know someone who created compelling «case studies»? Tag them in the comments!
