Vegan daily servings simplified
_
This is a basic idea of the number of servings from each of the plant food groups that you would want to aim for. Of course there is more to take into consideration for optimal health than depicted in this diagram, but if you are getting in the servings shown here then you are on the right track!
_
Here are a few extra things to note:
1.) Incorporate specific Omega-3 rich foods such as flaxseed and hemp seeds.
2.) Make sure you are eating the foods that will provide you with calcium. (Or drink a plant-based milk.)
3.) Oil consumption in moderation
4.) Herbs and spices are also great, not only for taste, but additional health benefits as well.
5.) Other meat substitutes like seitan are great for added protein.

What myths have you heard about a #veganlifestyle?
.
.
There continues to be some misunderstandings and many myths surrounding a vegan diet. Many non-vegan experts say that this diet is unhealthy and unsustainable; however, I'd like to point out here that a vegan diet offers much more nutritional benefits than the Standard American Diet. .
.
Following a vegan or plant-based diet is composed of an array of foods from vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains which are rich sources of fiber and antioxidants - foods and compounds that many Americans lack in their diet.
.
.
Studies have shown that those who follow a plant-based diet have a lower risk of developing many health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Overall nutrition has also been shown to be better in vegan diets than in omnivores. In addition, studies show that a whole foods, plant-based diet is the only diet that is able to reverse certain chronic health conditions.
.
.
So, contrary to the belief that a vegan diet is unhealthy and will result in weak muscles and frail bones is not true. A well-planned vegan diet can meet all your nutrient needs. And it's a safe diet for any stage of the lifecycle! .

⏩ WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE FROZEN FRUITS❔⏪⏩ COMMENT BELOW❗
➖
Many people think that FROZEN FRUITS are less nutritous than regular fruit but that's barely a MYTH so make sure to STACK UP on your favorite FRUITS whether FRESH OR FROZEN!
➖
Fruit plays an essential role in every diet since it provides ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS like MINERALS, VITAMINS, ANTIOXIDANTS and other PHYTONUTRIENTS... all that good stuff!
➖
▪ LET'S LOOK AT WHAT DR. GREGER @nutritionfacts.org has to say about this QUESTION mentioned above: 'I recommend one daily serving of berries (half cup fresh or frozen berries, or a quarter cup dried) and three daily servings of other fruit (a medium-sized fruit, a cup cut-up fruit, or a quarter cup dried). Berries are the healthiest fruits in part due to their plant pigments. They evolved to have bright, contrasting colors to attract fruit eating critters to help disperse their seeds, and the same molecular characteristics that give berries such vibrant colors may account for some of their antioxidant abilities. Berries are second only to herbs and spices as the most antioxidant-packed food category. As a group, they average nearly 10 times more antioxidants than other fruits and vegetables (and exceed 50 times more than animal-based foods). Berries offer potential protection against cancer, a boost to the immune system, and a guard for the liver and brain. An American Cancer Society study of nearly 100,000 men and women found that those who ate the most berries appeared significantly less likely to die of cardiovascular disease.' - source: http://www.nutritionfacts.org/berries

Are any of these foods new to you?
I had definitely heard of some of these before but I hadn't really tried them or they just didn't become something that I cooked with at home ever.
Once I became plant-based, I started trying new foods. Part of it was because I had just cut out some big staples in my diet like meat, dairy, and eggs so I had to find new substitutes for those. But I also realized that what I really loved about my food was usually the spice or the sauce that added flavor in the first place, not necessarily the thing it was flavoring/covering. Herbs and spices are the true joy in every meal, everything else just adds texture
It also helped me to branch out and try different fruits and vegetables I wouldn't have otherwise cared to taste. I am now OBSESSED with beets.
What's something new that you've tried since transitioning?
