2006 Château Cos d`Estournel . . Château Cos d`Estournel is named after its 19th century owner, Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, and it was he who built the bizarre oriental edifice that is a landmark for any tourist in the Médoc. Today Cos d'Estournel is without doubt the leading estate in St-Estéphe. It is located in the south of the appellation on the border with Pauillac and its vineyards are superbly sited on a south-facing gravel ridge with a high clay content, just north of Lafite. Cos d'Estournel is typically a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc - do not be fooled by the relatively high Merlot content, as these are full-bodied, dark, brooding tannic wines when young which develop a complexity and intensity that can rival many top growths from Pauillac. In 1998 the Prats family sold Cos d'Estournel to The Tailan Group. Cos d'Estournel is classified as a 2ème Cru Classé.

Pierre Overnoy is a legendary figure in the natural wine world: a pioneer, especially in his avoidance of the use of sulphur, he stopped adding it since 1968. Pierre started his career at the family Domaine in Pupillin, Arbois with 2,5 hectares. Jules Chauvet, the Beaujolais négociant and wine researcher, was a mentor and a friend to Pierre #Overnoy since the beginning. Overnoy’s goal was always to make wines of terroir, which would reveal the key of their soils and accurately reflect their vintage. Since 2001 the vines and the cellar are now solely in the hands of Pierre Overnoy‘s protégé, Emmanuel Houillon, who carries on the philosophy and each painstaking detail of his mentor. Emmanuel worked with his wife Anne until his brother Aurélien joined them as a partner in 2007. Without sulphur the quality of the grapes has to be exceptional and so everything in the vineyard is done totally organically. Vintages from Overnoy’s era bear his name, while more recent vintages are named after #Houillon. ~ En voici un vin déroutant... ni blanc, ni rouge ni rosé mais... orange ! Pour faire simple, le vin orange est un vin blanc que l'on vinifie à la manière d'un vin rouge. Dans le cas présent, le jus issus de cépages blancs macère avec la peau et les pépins. Ce sont les polyphénols et les anthocyanes contenus dans la peau du raisin qui donnent cette couleur orangée, et qui sont à l’origine des arômes du vin . . -- Passons aux choses sérieuses, pour ma première expérience avec les vins orange, mon choix s'est porté sur un micro domaine bordelais (situé à Gabarnac dans le Sauternais) appartenant à Sophie et Sébastien Cantury : Les Petites Parcelles et leur cuvée "85 ares". Issue à 60% de semillon, 20% de muscadelle, 15% de sauvignon gris et 5% de sauvignon blanc, c'est un Vin de France non collé, non filtré vinifié selon les préceptes de la biodynamie. Production de 1896 unités pour ce millésime 2017. -- La robe est superbe...orangée et dorée même si forcément un peu trouble. Le nez m'a étonné par son côté bonbon acidulé ainsi que par ses arômes d'abricot, de pommes granny, d'ananas et d'agrumes. La bouche est piquante voire mordante ; agrumes et raisins frais se mélange à la perfection... Alors oui effectivement les tannins sont présents mais la fraîcheur l'emporte et cela procure même une sensation désaltérante avec en point d'orgue une très belle salinité qui vient conclure une dégustation haute en couleur... . .
