GHOST - Opus Eponymous (2010). . . This is my favourite modern record. I have so many copies of this record I have lost count. This album introduced me to so many different bands, especially Mercyful Fate. I love this record to death. . . Unfortunately, I am not particularly interested in anything else past this & Infestissumam because Ghost totally changed their sound. At least they made 2 amazing records... . . BLACK SABBATH - Master of Reality (1971) . . In honour of @geezerbutler turning 70, I thought I would post this record. Black Sabbath are one of the best bands ever because of GZR’s lyrics. When we went to the @homeofmetal_uk exhibition, there were some of Geezer’s Dennis Wheatley novels. Clearly, Geezer is a legend of the highest order. Who had that sort of stuff in 1950s Brum?! . . This is a massively great album. My favourite song from this is obviously “Children of the Grave”. I remember seeing Sabbath at their last ever show in Birmingham and thinking how epic it would have been to see them play in the early 70s. I feel so proud to be from where Sabbath (and many other rock/metal bands) originated: The Black Country. Even if people do take the mick out of the accent! . . VARGRAV - Reign in Supreme Darkness (2019). . . I love this record because it sounds ridiculously atmospheric and because it makes me want to be a Night Elf in Teldrassil. I think that I prefer this record to Netherstorm but they’re both iconic. I’m seriously so excited about the new James Taylor box set out today from @rhino_records! It was just a few weeks ago that I was driving, singing along to “Fire and Rain” on the radio, realizing what a travesty it was that I didn’t have any James Taylor records on vinyl. This set was the perfect answer to that problem! It houses the six albums that Taylor recorded for Warner Bros. Records from 1970-1976, all newly remastered by Peter Asher. I didn’t know that Asher was Taylor’s manager for 25 years, and actually quit his A&R job at Apple Records to move to the US to be Taylor’s manager. Fun fact! The records are all on really nice 180g heavyweight vinyl and sound amazing as they always do coming from Rhino. The collection spans some of his biggest hits like “Fire and Rain,” “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You),” “Sweet Baby James,” and “You’ve Got A Friend.” If you’re a James Taylor fan, ya need this set! Half of these albums have been out of print on vinyl since the ‘80s, so it’s an excellent way to build up the collection! Are you a James Taylor fan? After not having gone digging for a few months, I’ve had a couple great outings in the last two weeks. I finally found a minty early pressing of a Doors album! I’ve been holding out for a long time to find any of their albums. Morrison Hotel is the first Doors studio album to make its way into my collection. I otherwise only have the Live at The Matrix RSD release from 2017. For classic rock albums like this, I always really want original/early pressings, so I’ll keep the search going! I’m not a mega Doors fan by any means, and have always known the hits more than anything else, but I really dig this album. “Roadhouse Blues,” “Peace Frog,” and “Land Ho!” are my favorite tracks. I definitely need some more Doors in my life. KISS - Creatures of the Night (1982). . . I went to see @kissonline on Tuesday and I was really impressed because I’ve never seen them before - what a spectacular it was. My favourite part was definitely Gene spitting blood everywhere and breathing fire. Oh and their shoes: I want some sparkly platform boots with demon faces on please. Oh and a guitar that shoots out fireworks. . . Kiss inspired all my favourite bands so I am really grateful for their contribution to music and I’m so glad I got to see them before they retire. . .
