Watermelon peperomia progress. I received this division from my friend, @inrootedlove 2 months ago. Poor thing got severely dehydrated during transport. I potted it in a self watering system with leca and now it's perky with lots of new roots and leaves . Self watering FTW. A cut is not just a cut. I have long been propagating Sansevierias. I have always cut straight my cuttings so far. It took always very long until roots grew. With the new cutting technique - I cut a triangle, the roots already grew after a few weeks. And what really makes me wonder, an instagram friend @houseplant_1984 has written to me that you can get the yellow edges of the Sansevieria with this cutting technique. I'm curious. My pilea family OG pilea is growing in a plastic pot with cactus soil. I've had her since August last year. Pup on the left is growing in self watering with leca. I separated her about 3 months ago. How to propagate peperomia obtusifolia ☺️ . This peperomia suffered a lot. It was so gorgeous but was damaged a lot by pests, so I decided to propagate, to make the plant look more bushy. . I took two cuttings. And yes, a cutting with no leaves can also be propagated. I put the cuttings in water, you can also stick them straight into soil. Important propagation points: ➡️Take a cutting properly, meaning include at least 1 node. I try to have 2, to increase chances if success ➡️Light is crucial for cuttings, as it is for potted plants. More light increases chances of success ➡️Replace water weekly, you need to replenish oxygen, also the PH of the water changes, which reduces the availability of nutrients from water. Nodes should be in water not above it. ➡️When the cuttings have 1 to 2 inches of roots, pot in soil ➡️Even if you do everything right, not every cutting will propagate, don't be too hard on yourself ☺️ . String of pearls propagation ☺️ . There are a couple of ways to propagate string of pearls. In this video I will demonstrate water propagation: . ➡️Cut off one of the strings ➡️Remove the bottom few pearls. Roots will grow from the nodes (where each of the pearls was) ➡️Put in water. SOP propagate VERY quickly, you will get roots in only a few days . Same rules apply as for any propagation: . ➡️Take only healthy cuttings ➡️Provide bright indirect light. More light speeds up propagation and increases success rate ➡️Replace water weekly ➡️Once the roots are 1-2 inches long, pot in soil . ➡️When in soil, water SOP in the same way as the main plant, once the soil gets fully dry. Pearls will become soft to the touch and wrinkly when they need water ➡️Have fun ☺️ . The gorgeous ceramic pot in the video comes from @convivialproduction.
