An abandoned Italian Semovente da 90/53 in Southern Italy, early 1944. This vehicle was inspired by the contemporary German Hornisse, the first SPG mounting the fearsome 88 mm gun. Italy had at that time their own good gun in the Cannone da 90/53 mod. 39. Its weight and size meant a revolving turret was not feasible, and mounting the gun in the middle of an M14/41 chassis would have been impossible due to stability problems. Hence, this solution with a somewhat modified chassis. A destroyed PzKpfw VI of II. / s.Pz.Abt. 504 is obstructing Traversa Quarto, a road in Belpasso, Sicily in 1943. The company was moving through Belpasso when Feldwebel Kruse's tank suffered a technical failure and had to be knocked out. The tank was 3.56 meters wide and thus thoroughly blocked the street which is 6.50 meters wall to wall.
