Views for days at Zion National Park This pic was taken on the hike to Angels Landing, and if you only choose to do one hike in Zion it should be this one!! The day before, we did three small hikes that we were told were the most popular by one of the guides however I was kinda underwhelmed which made me realise how spoilt we are in New Zealand - I later realised these trails were the most popular because the hikes weren’t too difficult, not because they are the prettiest. BUT then we did this hike and it was amazing!! It took us about 3 hours and was a relatively steep trail, getting to see this view at the end though made it all worth it! Exactly one year ago, two of my very best friends and I decided to hike Angels Landing AND the Narrows in one day We were exhausted! OMGSH guys, it was so worth it. Zion is unreal! I highly recommend getting the first or second shuttle to the Angels Landing trailhead. Trust me, you don’t want to be on the spine of the hike with a huge crowd and the sun beating down on you. ⁣ ⁣ Zion NP is absolutely stunning and I am forever grateful we decided to do this roadtrip! Especially since Kim lives in China now! ⁣ I didn’t realize it has already been a year and my reminiscing is making me miss my girls a little extra today! Hands down my favorite spot in #zionnationalpark - golden peaks, an insanely powerful river, and nobody around me. #behindthescenes - I’ve not had many chances to go on adventures lately so I have to tack adventures onto other parts of my life. I had a one day trip planned to Salt Lake City so I went via Zion and had on afternoon and morning to squeeze in some fun. It was my first time in Zion and while I did a little research, I decided to just arrive and aimlessly wonder. I told myself to resist the “token Instagram shots” and remember the joy of just discovering and it was the most fun I’ve had shooting in a long time. It reminded me that the outcome is such a small part of photography and the thrill of discovering compositions is where my motivation and heart lives. Much of the hike to "the subway" in zion is pretty treacherous terrain, especially for someone like me that isn't exactly a hiker by trade. You aim your course upstream, and that is the best directions you are going to get, because there really isn't a trail. How we managed to get out of here without getting too hurt (oops, never mind, sorry Jessica) is a mystery. Most of the hike is beautiful, but it really comes into it's own in the last section, where the views become what you see here. The vertical canyon walls of Utah really produce a type of light that is of their own quality.
