In our course The Freelancer's Business Bootcamp, we walk you through everything you need to know to run a profitable design business from home. We include everything from what to write in your client contracts to what to ask in your consultation and even how to attract your ideal clients with social media (ahem - Instagram!) We also chat about why it's so important to take deposits from your clients.
When I first started my business I consumed every blog post, webinar, online class I could get my hands on and one of the first things that I remember reading was that as designers we're always striving to find our next client. At the time, I didn't really know what that meant. I thought if I have a client, why do I need to look for the next one? Shouldn't I be looking for the next client after I've finished with my current client? This way of thinking will KILL your business! Sometimes people need time to think about investing with you, sometimes they need to get funding, sometimes they're shopping around (I LOVE it when people do this, I explain more about that in the course). So getting a client RIGHT after your contract ends is almost near impossible!
We run our business by booking AHEAD and taking deposits from our clients for 2 reasons:
1) This ensures we don't take on any other work during this time, it's reserved for that client and that client only.
2) It also solidifies the seriousness of your client's intention to work with you.
Because of this, we are able to book ahead in our schedule and stay consistently busy. Staying busy with consistent clients also helps relieve financial stress, something every small business knows well.
This topic and so much more will be explained in depth in the course. Click on the link in our bio for more info and let us know if you have any questions!

This guy (who happens to be my husband) jumped right into a new career path when we embarked on this journey:
.
First job was *professional chiller* enjoying some time off and picking up on his work-out again
.
Second (and maybe a little more useful) was his newfound interest for web-designing which led to an online course he has been doing for the past couple of months. He just completed the course and is now building his new online CV. How cool is that? From Account Manager tied to a desk to web-designer who can work from everywhere?
.
Conclusion: Changing career path is never too late, just saying!

The strangest thing has happened.
I see colours more vividly than I did before.
Having left my old office job to pursue a full time gig as a freelance developer and entrepreneur I walked outside to my car and noticed that the all of the grass and trees were greener.
And the sky was the coolest hue of blue I’ve ever seen.
What I thought and assumed was colours isn’t anywhere close to how strong they should be. Damndest thing.
The only explanation I can possibly think of is a significant improvement in my mental health. I’ve had improvements before that wax and wane but nothing like this.
I’ve also noticed I’m more present in the moment as its happening. Okay so like before, I’d be there, but half my mind would be either looking into the future trying to predict what will be, or stooped in the past in regrettably my less favourite of moments.
But now, I’m HERE.
Like, really here.
Speak to me and I am right in the moment.
Relaxed, less stressed, happy, and focusing and doing things that matter to me. That I am passionate about.
Making a leap of faith and taking action to incur actual tangible significant change did this

Here at Clover & Crow, we book our clients in advance and this has helped us run our business in the best possible way for a couple reasons...⠀
⠀
There's a lot of moving parts to any project and we've become extremely organized in the manner in which we break down each task. This allows us to not only stay on deadline (yay launch days!) but also provide complete transparency to the client during the process. Most importantly, by booking in advance we can onboard our clients ahead of time and let them ease into their assigned homework so they have the necessary time to consider each element we need from them without feeling rushed. This way, not only is the client able to enjoy the process, but by the time we're ready to start the contract we have everything we need from them to hit the ground running!⠀
⠀
In addition, booking in advance keeps us consistently busy! Looking at a fully booked and organized calendar is an amazing feeling. It ensures we're not taking on too much or too little, each client's project time is set aside so they get all the attention they require and we don't have to scramble for work (because booking client contracts are a process! From the initial email to the contract being signed and deposit sent in can sometimes take months depending on the amount of work involved, if they need funding, if they need to coordinate other elements like renovations, etc.)⠀
⠀
Here at Clover & Crow, we're really proud of the work we put out in the world, but more importantly, we're especially proud of the process we've created in order to provide an elevated service to our clients by delivering amazing customer service.
Learn all this and more in our online business bootcamp course set to launch next month, link in bio!✌️

That feeling when you forgot to backup or push to repo
(for clarity I always remember to back up my work and push to my repo, do you have a system in place to secure your work on a regular ongoing basis?)
