There are 3 things in this life that give me all the feels: Being in love, of course. Making an adventure out of making moves to make the world better. And a kickass glass of luscious red wine. I’ve had some life changing realizations and new ideas about the direction I want to take in global health since I’ve been here. So this V day: the feels are there ❤️ p.s. always repping my favorite @wearfigs ... even all the way in Uganda #globalhealth #medstudent
As the winter months creep along, I’ll admit that I might be starting to feel the burnout. Not a lot, but a little. (Anyone with me?) My PD reminded me yesterday to take time during my upcoming holiday break to regroup—physically, mentally, AND spiritually too, as tough as that may be to do sometimes. For me that usually means disappearing and going away somewhere by myself to tough things out; but as the years go by I’m starting to realize that it’s much more wise and far more productive to open yourself up to the advice and compassion of others around you, even if you’re like me and despise asking anyone for anything ever, and even if your support network is a bit non-traditional. What do you do, and who do you lean on when you’re running on empty? // #residentlife #scrublife #wellness #selfcare #worklifebalance #globalhealth #medicine #meditation #vsco #vscocam #buddhism #relax
Hola como estas!? Over the weekend I landed in a small town in the Dominican Republic with my limited Spanish ♀️ There was anxiety, fear and excitement as I started my Global Health Elective with my 2 co-residents. Today 4 days into the experience I can say that despite the unique challenges such as the limited infrastructure, internet issues, lack of transport and language barriers, this experience will positively shape our careers as physicians. It has really reinforced how important physical examination is as a skillset. With such limited resources we have been relying heavily on our stethoscopes and listening to the patients. We’ve spent no time with a computer and have limited labs. We have come to realize that we take so many things for granted from blood pressure monitors to electronic thermometers to fetal heart monitors, not to mention the endless lab work and imaging we order. For example the only monitor here for contractions during labor is our hands! If you ever have the opportunity, I strongly advise you take the time out to be exposed to global health issues and work in patient care outside a first world country. It’s truly eye opening and rewarding all in one
Humbled to have given a speech alongside Jason Cummings following presidential candidate Tim Ryan at the Bicol Clinic Fundraiser Gala event regarding our experience in Haiti and our support for the Bicol Clinic Foundation in their mission to support those in need across the globe.

#VisualAbstract: One Month of Rifapentine plus Isoniazid to Prevent HIV-Related Tuberculosis.
Treatment of latent #tuberculosis infection is an important control measure. In this international phase 3 trial, 1 month of isoniazid plus rifapentine was noninferior to the standard 9 months of isoniazid in #HIV-infected patients. Tap the link in our bio to read the full text abstract.

Koumba is a woman who brings life wherever she goes. Through her midwifery clinic she estimates she’s helped deliver over 100 babies in her village — but the goiter growing in her neck for the last five years has made work a challenge. Koumba’s thankful for the opportunity to receive surgery onboard the #AfricaMercy — not just because of the impact it will have on her own life, but because she will soon have a renewed ability to help others.⠀
