Tiger Woods and Jason Day sharing their knowledge in bunkers. Lots of information but the biggest is what they say about amateurs and bounce. Video is 7 mins long. Watch each one, well worth it. The views off the first tee at Pasatiempo are phenomenal, especially in the late after with the sun filtering through the trees. As I watch The Masters this week I’m appreciating the amazing work of Dr. Alister MacKenzie who created Augusta National and Pasatiempo and which he made his home course. Pasatiempo will also host The Westen intercollegiate this coming week. @pasatiempogolfclub @renaissancegolfdesign @sjsuspartans
One of my favorite short game videos to show students is of @jordanspieth at the British Open in 2017. He is hitting 3 different types of shots here:
- Standard
- Bump and Run
- High and Soft
Notice how free the motion looks:
-There is a softness in his lower body through the shot.
-His head gets taller post impact. There is no effort to stay down on the shot or “keep your head down”.
-He keeps his speed up with the club head through the shot. In order to create spin and solid contact, there needs to be some speed.
-The follow through is different depending on the shot he is trying to hit. Low shot is a low finish, and a higher shot is a higher finish.
-He is able to hit 3 different shots to the same pin location. This allows him to have options depending on the lie, condition, and situation.
Next time you are practicing your short game, pay close attention to these keys that Jordan Spieth exemplifies and you will get up and down with no problem, or a friend who needs some short game help!
