Looks like 22 years in MKY just wasn’t enough...how about 24 So unbelievably excited to announce that I have officially accepted my offer to attend Murray State University in the fall to pursue my master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology! Way back Wednesday comin at ya... but with a message.
-
1. I chose all my Racer Volleyball pics because it’s tournament time
-
2. I was always known as “the volleyball player”. Oh you’re Scottie, that volleyball player right? Oh you play volleyball don’t you? You’re number 7 right?
It was my identity, it was all I knew and everyone associated me with the sport. Which, at the time, I didn’t care. I liked that people knew me in that way. That I loved my sport and put my heart and soul into it.
But when it was over and people would still ask me about the team (that I wasn’t a part of) or people would still associate me as “that volleyball player” I felt stuck.
I felt as if volleyball was all I was good for. That the best part, and only meaningful part, of my life was over.
And that’s when everything went downhill and downhill fast. -
-
But I’m here to say, that’s not all I was. My identity wasn’t in volleyball. The best parts of my life have yet to come.
I’m a completely different person now. And yes, people still associate me as the volleyballer and they probably always will (& it doesn’t bother me anymore), but even more people associate me as SO much more. I am so much more and have always been
So if you feel stuck, like your identity is in something that’s over or you don’t want to 100% be associated with... I am here to tell you
You are NOT stuck
You can always change and mold your identity
AND
Your identity doesn’t have to be in one aspect of your life.
You are so much more.
-
I will always be grateful for the years of volleyball. I will always love my teammates and coaches. I will always be grateful for the lessons learned, the opportunities and wonderful experiences. And I will always be a Racer.
But that part is over now.... and I have grown into something so much more than the “volleyball player”.
