Are you a botanical risk taker? . When I first got into growing plants, I was an admittedly timid gardener. I was always scared of harming them, so I’d be super delicate when repotting—painstakingly unravelling the rootball one strand at a time—and I never pruned my plants just in case I somehow did it wrong. With time, and my plants flourishing, I loosened up and started intervening more intensively to promote healthy growth ‍ . For me, it helps to remember that plants are living, growing organisms. With few exceptions, a bad pruning is not going to kill your plant. This is especially true of #aroids, which are vigorous and adaptable growers; in fact, vegetative propagation is an important toolkit in their arsenal of survival strategies . For example, I received this #Raphidophoratetrasperma cutting from @theboogiedownbotanist at the NYC Plant Swap 2019 originally as a single vine. I decided to experiment with dividing it into individual nodes after reading that many commercial growers propagate this way. Today, all three appear to have started rooting, and I hope to continue experimenting by transferring some into semi-hydro and others into soil! . Heading back to work this morning (for a rest!) after a weekend of hard graft in the garden. Digging. Raking. Levelling. Edging. Sledge hammering. We literally haven’t stopped!
