She had a set back of a couple of weeks early on which is why she took so long. Not bad for my first attempt at a mainline. She was grown in a 3.9 gallon Autopot with kindsoil(hot soil) under the Migro light. Fed only plain ph’d water and no flush necessary when using the hot soil. Autoflowering plants go from germination to harvest in about 3 months. But are they a good option for beginners? Benefits: Faster harvest than photoperiod strains, Good yields for the time spent, Works for outdoor growers with short summers or who want two harvests during a long summer, No need to worry about light schedules or light leaks, Can easily stagger multiple harvests, Modern autoflowering strains are hardy and can be topped/trained without a problem, Many impressive new strains and autoflowering breeders appearing every day. Downsides: Far fewer strains to choose from, Older genetics are subpar (small/stunted/easily stressed plants, tiny yields, low quality buds), No control over length of vegetative stage (less flexible if you run into major problems in the beginning), not suitable for some setups that need a long vegetative stage like a Scrog net. For a first time grower, autoflowering plants get you to that first harvest as fast as possible. As long as you use a good breeder, autoflowering plants sort of grow the way beginners expect. Basically: Keep the plant alive and wait until buds are ready to harvest. Since autos have short lives, they tend to stay a manageable size. Nearly all autoflowering seeds are feminized, which means you don't need to worry about male plants. What are your thoughts on autoflowering strains for first-time growers? The new generation of autoflowering genetics has impressed me compared to the autoflowering strains I grew even a few years ago. But you must get seeds from a trustworthy breeder to get the benefits. Some autoflowering breeders I highly recommend include: @dinafemseedsofficial, @dutchpassion.official, @sweetseeds, and @mephisto.genetics.

Tour of the mini tent! This tent is only 2'x2'x3' (60cm x 60cm x 90cm). So tiny There are 4 autoflowering plants inside in 2-gallon smart pots filled with coco coir (Mother Earth Coco Plus Perlite Mix on Amazon). The nutrients are Flora trio plus CaliMagic, and I use PH Down to adjust the nutrient water to ~6.3 pH. For grow lights, I'm using a HLG Quantum Board 65 for the vegetative stage (4000k colored LED grow light using just 65W of electricity) which you can see in the last picture. I'll be switching to a HLG 100 (3000k flowering color 100W LED) once buds start forming this week or next week. These LEDs were given to me (last time I used a much bigger T5 fluorescent grow light) and have worked well so far. Let's see what happens in the flowering stage! I'm using two @flower_filters (second to last picture, green squares in upper back) which have small carbon filters and fans to vent heat and scrub smells. They're effective so far, dead silent, and take no room so I was able to fit an extra plant compared to last time. Really great for stealth on this size grow. I didn't like that I had to put holes in the tent to use them, but I found out the company is going to release a version that fits into the built-in ports of a grow tent. I think that'll be a game changer for these mini tents. I've used a regular 4" exhaust fan with 4" carbon filter, and they're loud and bulky. Plus for some reason a 4" carbon filter never fits together right with a 4" exhaust fan (I tried a few different ones and all had the same issue). Who else has grown in a mini tent or other micro-grow like a space bucket? What was your experience? What type of grow light and carbon filter/fan did you use?

Soil vs Hydro chilli grow update, week 8. The hydro side is about 20% bigger than the soil side at this stage. The hydro side has been lots of work though. Draining, cleaning and refilling the hydro system takes over an hour and has to be done every 10 days or slime appears, PH drops and air stones get clogged. The soil side is nice and simple requiring daily dripping of water and a weekly feed. Flowers appearing now so I've reduced humidity to about 60% and increased feed.
