Have you ever considered that how we fuel ourselves is beyond food alone? .
The thoughts we nurture ... the people we associate with ... the things we read, watch and listen to all play a significant role in our overall health. .
Pay attention to the messages that are being fed into your mind. You are the gatekeeper and protector of your mind but it’s so easy to allow negative and harmful messages in by not paying attention to our surroundings. .

Habits are the decisions and actions we perform on a daily basis. Some serve us better than others, which is why our present state of being is a reflection of the habits we have built throughout our lifetime.
Many of us want to improve at least one are of our life, and we try to do so by trying to rely on willpower and motivation, which is often not enough. And it certainly isn’t something we have 24/7.
In that case, the key to making a lasting change is to build better habits.
Let’s say you want to lose weight and get in better shape. In that case, you will have to create better habits around how you take care of yourself. But rather than trying to overhaul your whole life all at once, pick ONE small habit to focus on.
Let’s say you want to start exercising. Rather than committing to working out 6 days a week, pick a number of days you know you can stick to. If that feels overwhelming, start even smaller. Maybe your first habit is to go for a 10 minute walk every day.
Set your environment up for success to make it easier on you. If you want to exercise, pack a gym bag and put it in your car. Or lay out your workout clothes the night before to give you that reminder.
Remove the barriers around it. Don’t feel like going to the gym? Cool. Can you buy some dumbbells and set up a small home gym?
Do the habit despite the resistance. This helps you get past your mind, which will try to keep you comfortable. Keeping the promises you make to yourself is incredibly empowering and helps keep you going.
Acknowledge yourself for doing it. Building new habits is hard, so celebrate those wins!
Notice the positive changes that happen from doing the habit. This creates evidence that what you’re doing is working!
No matter how hard you might try to be perfect, you will slip up. But that’s ok! Just have a plan to get back on track. Had to skip the gym? No worries, can you go for a walk later in the day instead? Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good. Something is always better than nothing.
Tell me. What habit are you trying to create for yourself?

Topic: #BreakingHabits: In "The #CravingMind: From Cigarettes to Smartphones to Love..." Brewer (2017) describes a four-step mindfulness-based procedure for breaking bad habits. The skill set involves learning to Recognize, Accept, Investigate, and Note the conditions central to understanding why the habit happens and how to change it ~

Fat Loss Guidelines
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In my experience with coaching for fat loss their are 2 kinds of people
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Those who I can say “eat 2100 calories and 130g grams of protein each day” and they crush it!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Then there’s those who I say the word calories & you can instantly feel the anxiety and stress in the room shoot through the roof
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So if that’s you & counting your numbers makes you instantly a binge eating stress tornado these 6 guidelines might be a game changes for you!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣Protein In Every Meal
It doesn’t matter what your preference is (chicken, turkey, fish, tofu, steak etc) but it needs to be a rule your having a good sized protein source in every single meal
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣Plants in Every Meal
Just with the protein, you have to have plants in every meal
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fruits, Veggies, both, I don’t care!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3️⃣No 2 FUN FOOD meals in a row!
Im all about fun food meals now and then, but you have to break them up!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you go smash grandmas apple pie after lunch you probably shouldn’t go and have a Dominos pizza in the evening too top it off!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Put a super nutritious lower calorie meal between the fun food meals
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4️⃣Portion out BIG Packages
This one is a GAME CHANGER. If you have food that comes in big packages before you dive into them, pre portion them out so you don’t eat the ENTIRE tub of ICE CREAM!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5️⃣Eat 50-75% of Normal Portion Sizes
Don’t make the mistake of cutting carbs, cuttings fats, cutting sugar, or eating like a rabbit
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Just take your normal portion and have about 75% of it, this will make a nice little deficit without doing anything!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Notice the perception change - I said you get to eat 75% of it, not cut it by 25%, that’s a big difference in your brain
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6️⃣Full Glass of Water Before Each Meal
This will help fill you up and keep you hydrated!

What are the determinants of success when attempting to change our habits?
@james_clear explains the importance of building a system that sets us up for new habit success. When we are working toward better habits, whether they be health, parenting or business habits, the principles are the same. Set up a system, show up and be consistent. Even if it means starting with a tiny, atomic change.
Meditating for 1 minute every day is a better foundation for creating a meditation habit that will result in long lasting results than meditating for an hour once every 2 months. Going to the gym, even if only for 10 minutes when you don’t feel like it, is a huge win because you are showing up, and training your brain to do so again and again.
I highly recommend #atomichabits by @james_clear (recommended to me by @askhowie - thank you :)) if you are looking to create a long lasting, meaningful, positive change in some aspect your life.
I’d love to hear from you: what do you do to ensure success when you start a new habit?
Health care providers: how do you coach your patients and clients to change their habits?

here’s a quote that I heard for the first time while learning about positive psychology: “Happiness is a work ethic.
It’s something that requires our brains to train just like an athlete has to train.”
-Shawn Achor
what do you think? I do find that the better my habits and the harder I work to stay on top of chores the happier I generally feel.
even if I’m getting lots of art done and feeling good about that, if my apartment isn’t clean then I’m probably still having a hard time.
it’s so easy to put off unfavorable tasks but if you try focusing on getting done all the things you’ve been putting off you are probably going to feel a huge mood boost once you’re finally checking them off your to do list!
if you read this whole long caption comment down below what makes you feel happy and accomplished! I write about how hard of a time I have with dishes but if I actually end up folding my laundry I feel like a superhero
