Meet Tawnia, a health information management (HIM) professional based out of Horizon’s The Moncton Hospital. Horizon’s HIM employees ensure all patient records and information are recorded and tracked. The data she codes is used by the Canadian Institution for Health Information (CIHI) to make high-level decisions that affect all Canadians. “I am happy knowing that it was my work that contributed to decisions or outcomes from the CIHI,” she said. “For instance, it was coding data that prompted the decision for bicyclists to use helmets.” Tawnia wants others to know there are a variety of health-care careers that require medical knowledge – which can be completely different than an operating room or nursing unit. //FEELING EXTRA HAPPY TODAY// The last 4 months in 2018 were very difficult for me . I tore my ligament and couldn’t walk properly for two months or work because of it, I was having a hard time in school (debating whether I should quit ) and I ended up leaving a job I had been at for nearly 4 years. I made a lot of tough decisions during that season that I didn’t fully understand why it was happening to me but I’m glad to say I can look back now and know exactly why. Tearing my ligament made me realize how difficult the Masters I had chosen was and how I was barely keeping up even though I wasn’t working due to my injury. This led me to changing my Masters concentration to one I enjoy (without loosing credits yay). Lastly , due to quitting my comfortable job to concentrate on school , I started applying to so many positions I wouldn’t have before and there was a specific one I really wanted.. it would allow me to enter the health IT/Informatics field with my newly chosen concentration but still not take away too much time from school. I’m happy to say I got offered the job!! If I hadn’t gone through those difficult times last year, none of this would’ve been possible // IF YOU’RE GOING THROUGH A TOUGH SEASON, YOU’LL BE ABLE TO LOOK BACK AND UNDERSTAND WHY IT HAPPENED IN TIME ♥️// Thank you for all the sweet messages from me announcing this on my story .
