#ROWLINGHEDGIE | ~ ℝ ⠀⠀⠀ This is Sleeping Beauty, or more commonly known as Rowling. Yes, that IS Fox’s mother. ⠀⠀ Anyway, this hedgehog was incredibly “mean” (defensive, huffy, puffy and prickly) when her family was dropped off in October of 2017. She was super hard to work with. The most defensive of the four girls (who were all very bonded). ⠀⠀⠀ Finally, a moment of clarity for her and she changed. A year and a half later, after consistently holding her and loving her, she grew to know me as a safe haven and her mama. ⠀⠀⠀ On March 7, 2018 (the day before the heater accident), I moved her from her two daughters’, Ellen and Wonder, cage, into her other daughter, Fox’s cage. Fox’s cage also has Moody, a blind girl from a whole different situation that was carefully introduced to Fox after recommendations from a fellow rescue, a breeder, and a vet. ⠀⠀⠀ This move seems to have done Rowling some good. Now, I say this because she is noticeably happier and freakishly comfortable in her surroundings. ⠀⠀⠀ SO COMFORTABLE that she seems to think it’s okay to PLAY DEAD FOR TEN MINUTES while her human is actually freaking out and hyperventilating and the only thing that shows there is LIFE IN THIS TINY BODY is the “twitch twitch” of her little feet. ⠀⠀⠀ Mind you, Rowling has been an excessively deep sleeper since the move (and probably before hand but she wasn’t comfortable enough with me yet). But, before, you could rub her belly and lightly blow on her face and wake her up. ⠀⠀⠀ NOPE. NOT THIS TIME. ⠀⠀⠀ Instead, this hedgehog FLOPS. SHE MOLDS TO THE SHAPE OF YOUR HANDS AND FINGERS AND REFUSES TO OPEN HER EYES. You blow on her face and she DOESNT WAKE UP. You rub her belly and she DOESNT WAKE UP. NO, she continues to give me a heart attack. She LITERALLY FELL OUT OF THE KANGAROO POUCH IN MY NEW HOODIE BUT SHE DIDNT WAKE UP. And then... . . ⠀⠀⠀ A worm is placed in front of her face... I watch as her eyes slowly open. I watch as her body becomes less moldable. And I watch as her little nose does the *twitch*. ⠀⠀⠀ And SUDDENLY... ⠀⠀⠀ CHOMP. RIP, WORM†. ⠀⠀⠀ Y’all. ⠀⠀⠀ I can’t even.
