Slesse, while quite well-known, is a trail I only recently learned of in the last couple of years. Until this past Spring I had a dinky little city car that while tough for what it was, getting me up some pretty questionable fsrs, prevented me from accessing the many "4wd only hikes" that comprise most of the Valley. I had heard the road was awful, so much to the point that when I was shopping for my new vehicle, topping my list of must-haves was "it must be able to get me up to Slesse" It's hilarious because it was such a chill road by fsr standards. Granted it was dry in mid summer but still. A couple potholes and creek beds but nothing a subi w a good driver couldn't handle easily. I wouldn't take my old Honda Fit Sport up it with its crazy low clearance, but it's hilarious someone told me Slesse is the worst to benchmark (Cheam and Winchester were WAY worse). Anyhoo, I digress. Slesse Mtn is a beautiful spot, pretty chill hike, I highly recommend. Its quite easy until the memorial plaque (gently undulating trail, though through thick brush and lots of mud). After that, the steepness begins and the surrounding mountains emerge. 14km rt gaining 1000 metres so a pretty moderate level overall. Would be an amazing trail to run! Super cool peaks around with remnants of hanging glaciers that have broken off so beware of falling ice. Lately I feel like every hike I do is my new favourite hike of the year. It's been such an incredible summer and we're only halfway through! Mount Macfarlane has been on my ever-growing list of peaks to bag for too many years. I was so stoked to finally have the strength and stamina to hit this one with confidence. It was a BEAST but worth every gruelling step and moment of terror getting up to that summit. At 22 km rt gaining 1905 metres (according to my @garmin Fenix3 Glonass satellite - @strava is much more generous telling users they gained 2200 metres ) it was no easy feat. Huge kudos to my awesome crew @chromextyn @standinginmotion Mel, Lanai, the Jeffs and @gurbaz21 for the great company, thanks for encouraging me up and sorry to have broken a couple of you - Lady yesterday sure was the end of my legs after that monster hahaha! It's an easy to find and follow trail, and the scramble isn't really that bad, especially when you have supportive friends. For me, it's all in my head so I just need to put the blinders on, not look down and all is ok. Finally hiked to Watersprite Lake in Squamish. It was mystically beautiful with all of the fog rolling in and out today. 4x4 access required to get to the trailhead. The trail itself though is not too hard. Pretty easy gradual incline to start with the last couple kms becoming a little more technical and steeper. The trail is well maintained by @bcmountaineeringclub. Thanks to all of the volunteers for their hard work. The trail is around 17km return with just under 700m elevation gain. You can use @alltrails hiking map to help get you to the trail and otherwise once you start hiking the trail its pretty straightforward with trail markers along the way. Also super quiet during the week. There were maybe just a handful of other hikers the whole time. I hear it gets quite busy on the weekends! Anyone climb up to that peak before #lowermainlandhikers

It's so nice this time of year ! All you have to do it look up... And find yourself a waterfall Found this gem in Hope BC. There was noooooo way I was going to the "popular" falls on my way back from Vancouver. So we pulled over off the road to this fella! There was only @m_plumpton and myself. There certainly is no shortage of mountain views on the Three Brothers trail at Manning Park! If you haven't done this hike before I suggest you put it on your list! It's a long hike but not too hard as you drive up most of the elevation gain. There's a campground a short way into the hike so make it an overnighter if you wish! I know I'll keep it in mind for when I finally start backpacking as you don't have to carry your stuff for too long if you choose to camp at that first campsite along the way. Happy Friday!!! Where you off exploring this weekend? Another snow-free hike I was reminded of is Bear Mountain. I backpacked up here with some rad folks last May and had a blast. Located near Harrison, it's a 20km rt trail that gains 1062 metres so its a bit of a slog but a great place to spend the weekend. There is no developed campsite so if you go, you need to be fully self-sufficient and practice @leavenotracecanada principles. There is so much we can learn from mother nature. She is true to herself. Strong through the storms. Ever patient and giving. She holds her cards close, yet generous to all who seek her out. Sometimes when I dive under the water, or sit silently in a deep forest I feel for a second like I've joined in with the nature around me and in that moment we become one and the same. I can only hope that one day I will grow to be even half as wise as her.
