Tying a knot in your threads, especially a really fine 100wt thread like InvisaFil, can often be tricky. Our friends at @brimfieldawakening shared this tip on how to easily tie a knot in your thread before starting your stitching!
⠀
Begin by stitching across your seam like normal and pull the thread almost all the way through, leaving a tail. Make a second stitch in the same spot and you'll end up with a small loop. Put your needle through the knot 2 times going in the same direction and pull it all the way through tightly, creating a perfect knot. This way your stitch is secured simply and efficiently every time❣️ #tiptuesday
I may have shared this tip with you before, but this is the method I use for sharpening smaller, more delicate gouges on my grinder. Sound on for the full explanation. I hope you find it useful.

Yesterday I posted this image from a trip to Ecuador. Originally I wasn't going to post it as I felt it was not up to standard. That connected with something I want to get into this year... sharing some thoughts behind the images and trying to help others with their photography, and of course, develop my own. We're all on this photographic journey together people! So here are my thoughts on what works with this image and what I feel it lacks. Note 'thoughts' & 'feel'. Whether a photograph is good, is subjective. It connects with different people...differently. Ultimately the 'rules' are useful but hopefully, this illustrates that there needs to be something more, and at the end of the day if you're happy with it then you have a great photograph. Equally, if you are not happy with, don't worry, someone probably will be, dust yourself off and ask, "What can I learn from this, what will I do differently next time?" So to answer my question on what composition techniques used.
1. Lead Lines (nice one @bexs_wonderland ). The mountain range and crops lead the eye towards the house on the right of the image. [red arrows]
2. Foreground interest. The image has focus from the close corn stalks, then another layer with the trees in the mid-ground dropping back to the far distance. These distinct layers allow the eye to wander and appreciate the scale [C-Close, M-Mid, F-Far]
3. The Rule of Thirds. The far, i.e. the mountains are in the top third, the field in the bottom two. The house in the right hand third. [Green grid]
The image is well exposed and the focus is sharp (arguably too much, but that's Instagram for you!), there is thought behind the composition but... where's the story?! For me, it lacks the context of place, does it leave you asking questions? Is there an emotional connection? It doesn't matter how many technical successes an image has - STORY IS KING (OR QUEEN)!
I also have issues with each of the composition techniques used but I've gone on long enough! Ask me in the comments if you're interested!

THURSDAY TIPS: When piping your macarons onto the sheet, I recommend using either Teflon sheets which I purchase from @eBay or a high grade baking/parchment paper. I know that many of you have had success with silicon mats but for me and my oven, they’re just a hot sticky mess so if that’s your problem, I would say change the sheet. I feel that the thickness of the silicon mats don’t allow for the heat to be conducted to the base of the macarons so the feet don’t develop so well and don’t bake properly from the base. When a macaron is baked properly, you will find they peel off the sheet easily!! #hintsandtips #macarontips #macaronssydney #sydneymacarons #macarons
MACARON TIP MONDAYS ™@arelio_sweetbox : {Double TAP to show some video love!!} I get many questions about how I get my shells looking so shiny.. the secret is actually in not allowing them to rest too long! I actually barely rest mine for more than 5 mins after piping which helps them maintain their glossiness and shine! I know many will say you need to but as you can see here.. no cracks.. cracked shells are usually the result of high oven temps and undermixed macaronage/batter! You'll get all these handy tips plus more from our face to face practical Sydney macaron classes. 2017 sold out but we may run a class on a weekday if there are enough people available on the same day. Email us now!! P.S: I love my new @iPhone camera! How awesome does this video look compared to my old ones?!
