I came back from a buying trip in Montreal. It's such an energizing place. I came back with 8 new fabrics for flatcaps, a couple more colours of threads that I was missing, and a mess of short zippers to make some change/card pouches. I tried to source materials for suspenders but was unsuccessful. I may have to order from off-shore. Such a shame. Have a look at my new fabrics. The first is a wool/polyester blend, one of a navajo inspired line that I'm trying out. The second is a replacement for my chocolate wool tweed that I'm running out of, that people love. It's ALWAYS the first cap people pick up. They didn't have brown but this black and white is really luscious as well. The third is a melton fabric. I won't make flatcaps of this until fall. They should be super gorgeous though, and warm. The last two are linens and they did not wish to be photographed. The first one is cream and the last is tan, not grey like it looks. They will make some super flatcaps for summer, which will also be impossible to photograph. I'm looking forward to that. You'll just have to come see them in person to really appreciate them, or I could send you a fabric sample. Ask. Not photographed are three more Commander fabric colours: brown, army green and light grey. If you want a flatcap made of any of these fabrics, let me know. Deckel.ca has a bit of an announcement today. It's been suggested that we need to have a few more products to cover a range of prices which is fair. My new product is a small change pouch made from scraps of cap fabric and their linings, as reducing waste is also an excellent idea. While I was in Montreal I picked up a few small zippers which is the only new thing being used in this pouch. The idea came from one I made myself. The change container I was using before was constantly dumping its contents into my purse making me look like I was spending my last coin as well as unorganized and slow at the cash. If that's happened to you, you'll know how annoying that can be. It took some time to figure out how to make these such that they look professional. First picture shows all the parts that go into each little pouch. They're fully lined, with a pocket inside for cards or receipts, with nice corners, a D-ring to attach them to a lanyard and a pull. Deckel's new product is made from scraps left over from making flatcaps. Reducing waste is an excellent idea. These small pouches will hold cards 'n cash 'n keys, kind of a bug-out bag for a quick run or trip to the store. Attach them to your lanyard or clip them to a belt loop and you're ready to go. As I promised, I cut into that Navajo line fabric that I bought in Montreal last week. These flatcaps have a lovely body from this wool/polyester blend, and so cozy! They're not exactly summer caps, but then it's not exactly summer. I made 22", 23", and 24" size flatcaps, meaning most people will fit one of them. There was rather a pleasant response to yesterday's Navajo flatcaps and I mentioned to someone that when I found this fabric in Montreal last week, that there had been many to choose from and difficult to choose just one. Working on linen flatcaps today, as planned and promised, but there's nothing finished enough to show. Instead I'll show another store I usually visit when I go to Montreal. This'll blow your minds, people. They sell even more thread than I've shown and a few more things as well. There's elastic, both lingerie and foldover, zippers, cording and other like stuff, as well as used sewing machines, mostly industrial ones. You can't really count on these things always being there or all colours though. Thread is their thing and you cannot ask for a better selection of it.
