We got the keys to the new house a day early so we took a break from boxes and bubble wrap and jumped in the car. We rolled all the windows down, turned the music up loud and went over to run through the empty rooms. The kids played tag and listened to their voices echo and tried to decide which direction to set up their beds. • The magic of a summer night, a new space, a fresh start... the magic of these young years, their sun-kissed shoulders, their love for one another... •
Nowwww, wish me luck. Back to bury myself in plastic bins and packing paper and wondering where all this stuff came from. • -

Kids are many things and my emotions about them can change several times a day. Any one else? ⠀
⠀
However, I really do value more than anything getting to raise intelligent, kind little ones. One thing that we have always placed high value on is language learning. ⠀
⠀
What is one thing that your family places high value on learning?
Tomorrow is the day! We start our 9th year of homeschooling tomorrow. I’m still pinching myself that I have had the privilege of doing life day-in-and-day-out with my kiddos. I’ve actually been homeschooling longer than my youngest has even been alive. ————
I am so thankful that we have a great homeschool room bc it really works best for my personality. But, we came from a very small home before with very limited space, and homeschooling still worked well! Make the best use of your home and the space(s) you have! ————
I will say, though, that a bit of organization goes a loooooong way. Magazine holders are one of my favorite tools for holding small/thin books that tend to fall over or get lost on the shelves. ————
Another thing I’ve implemented is using a file folder system for my kiddos’ “creations.” They each have a hanging file in our small filing container (see last picture), and when one of them creates something...it gets filed away. Once his/her folder is “bulging,” I will cull through it — without my kiddo’s help so that we don’t keep everything. ————
The boys and I are using @thegoodandthebeautiful for science this year. I am utilizing the space on the inside of one closet door for all of our science vocabulary and lab safety rules. #workwithwhatyouhave ————
I know that organization isn’t everyone’s strong area, and my biggest piece of advice is to ask a friend. Most people have a certain friend who finds organizing and decluttering fun. I’m that friend ♀️ for a lot of my friends. To be honest, it makes my heart happy to help people with my strong suit — and I am honored when they ask. You probably have a friend just like that, so reach out and make her day! ————
For those of you about to start a new year, or for those of you just now sitting down to make your plans — I wish you the best!❤️ ————

We are designed (from our central nervous systems on out) to co-regulate starting from the very moment we are born. Hug someone that you feel safe with the next time you are upset and be reminded —- we are designed to be in relationship. Self regulation is not our highest and our best, co-regulation is. #emotionalintelligence #regulation #gentleparenting
TRUE STORY: C walked out of the toilet with a ziplock bag filled with water and had an extremely cheeky look on her face I was so curious and wondered what she was up to! Then D said “Let’s do an experiment!” The next moment, they were getting the materials ready for a science experiment
⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
D told me to poke the sharpened pencils through the plastic bag and I said “NOOOO” ♀️ because the water will leak and mess up the room. He said “It won’t leak! I did it in school!” So we set out to test my prediction Before we did, I kept asking him “Are you sure? Are you sure?” I insisted on putting a tub below just in case his hypothesis was wrong ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And guess what! The water did not leak!! (I haven’t tried this personally, so I was really amazed!) Here’s what goggle said: When the pencil ✏️ is stabbed through the bag, the polymers in the plastic bag will push back towards the pencil and form a temporary seal, hence prevent the water from leaking out of the holes. #socool
⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ Try this with your kids please!!! Science experiments are so much fun and magical to little children! #stemeducation #stemforkids #scienceeducation #steamactivities

Science teachers, this experiment is perfect for teaching the refraction of light!✨ See how the light bends in water!
We didn’t clean our windows, kids had played in dirt with no bath prior to these pictures, we didn’t hire a photographer, we didn’t buy new matching outfits, we didn’t stress about getting the perfect shot, but we DID bribe our kids for their fake cheesy grins with $1 and a starburst ♀️ Welcome to the @redbrickschoolhouse Katalina Kay Even if we no longer live in a red brick house ... more like a white stucco farmhouse minus the farm but these pictures I will treasure for years to come. I’m all about simplicity this year. I’ve been trying to simplify various aspects of our lives for years ... it’s an ongoing goal I have. ”The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.”-Hans Hofmann ... tomorrow starts the first day of #homeschooling with a newborn and I’ll be doing my best to let “the necessary speak.” My husband has six weeks off from work and I sooo wish more companies did this!! It has been extremely helpful having him present and available while we adjust to having two extra feet in our home.
It happened. My oldest is officially enrolled in her first kindergarten year! I feel like We’ve been homeschooling for a lifetime yet it’s only just begun.

Planning is in full force and all the books and resources are arriving by the day. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for @ahumbleplace Charlotte Mason inspired curriculum. It has truly taken a good majority of the footwork out of setting up our year. My favorite thing about this curriculum is how simple and flexible it is. Rebecca mapped out the entire year, yet still gives the mother the ability to tailor plans to meet the needs and personhood of her child.

I can’t tell how many times Matt has said to me- let’s go travel. Let’s get an RV. Let’s just keep driving. And every time, I’ve given a reason not to. ♀️ well this morning I was close to tears (lots of factors ), and Matt said: let’s go travel. Let’s pack suitcases and go. And I said: Y E S. Sooo many reasons I have/had are rooted in fear, and Matt took my hand and said: Don’t be fearful. ❤️ so off we go!! Can’t wait to share our adventures with you!
