After a million Hongkongers took to the street last Sunday and the bloody Wednesday standoff, Carrie Lam, the head of Hong Kong who is not elected by the people of Hong Kong but a puppet put in office by PRC China, announced yesterday that she will ‘suspend’ the controversial extradition bill. However the people of Hong Kong want a complete withdrawal of the bill. My second sketch on Sunday during the protest. Thanks to my sketcher friends for their encouragement for the people of Hong Kong. The huge protest and the international pressure do play a part in pausing the Hong Kong Government from pushing the bill for the time being. However, the Hong Kong Government can just wait until the international attention dies down and the bill could be put on the table again. More importantly, terrible laws such as the extradition bill will just keep coming as Hong Kong’s Chief Executive (the president) is not elected by the people of Hong Kong but merely a puppet put in office by China. And on top of that, the Hong Kong’s constitution, ‘The Basic Law’ has an expiry date! Yes, our constitution which grants us autonomy will expire in 2047. By then our constitution will cease to exist and China can take direct control of Hong Kong.
