HEROD by Parfums de Marley
Herod is a beautiful combination of Tobacco and Vanilla with some Sweet and Spicy nuisances. The combination of Tobacco and Vanilla will immediately draw the comparison to many other sweet Tobacco fragrances. I have even heard this fragrance referenced in a recent YouTube video as a clone to Tobacco Vanille, but I couldn’t disagree more. The Smokiness, dominant Cinnamon and a slightly Earthy dry down, provide Herod with it owns distinct and very bold personality.
Not too many from Parfums de Marley that disappoint and this is no exception.

MUSK POUR HOMME by Jovan
So I joined in a livestream today with @scented_souls and the discussion came up about snobbery against cheap frags. Whilst I do have a number of very expensive bottles, I also have a handful that sell for less than $100, even a few that are under $20. If they smell good and I consider them bottle worthy, they will end up on my shelf, regardless of price (with in reason). So I thought I would feature one here.
This fragrance (which I picked up for around $15) is certainly in the cheaper category.
As a fragrance, this needs to be judged accordingly. When first sprayed it projects quite well as a strong Floral (Carnation) and Peppery scent. Rather than having a Musk note, it feels like it’s a mixture of notes to give a Musk vibe through Spices and Woods.
With a dash of Citrus, it is a pleasant lighter style of Musk.
There is something missing in terms of its depth, (especially for a musk) and it does feel thin on the skin. This also wears very close after the first hour. But for the price Jovans “Musk Pour Homme” is a good deal if you enjoy a Powdery, Spicy, Floral Musk.

RHINOCEROS by Zoologist
One of the three original releases from the house of Zoologist, Rhinoceros is a Boozy Leather fragrance that opens with a dose of Rum that is thick and bold, but not cloying or obnoxious. Although the Rum remains very prominent throughout, the scent settles down fairly quickly and is balanced out by herbal notes, along with the stickiness of the Pine and subtle medicinal qualities of the Elemi.
The middle begins to smooth out into a distinct leather fragrance. The Lavender is quite distinct along with the Tobacco, Vetiver, Woods and Leather.
The overall result is a strong dry fragrance that is probably my favourite from the house.

GODOLPHIN by Parfums de Marly
Throughout my fragrance journey, I often gravitate towards different scent genres. Obviously sometimes seasonally, but within those genres, I also go through phases and become encapsulated with certain notes. Godolphin is clearly a Leather fragrance, but the note I’m loving right now, is dried fruits.
It’s that distinct rich and sweet “Christmas Pudding” like fruitiness, that I enjoy that also separates this fragrance from the likes of Tuscan Leather.
A common and fair comparison, definitely, however they do have just as many differences as they do similarities. The Raspberry opening of Tuscan Leather is replaced here with Dried Fruits, Saffron and some Herbal qualities, giving Godolphin a sweeter opening.
Godolphin then reveals subtle florals in the middle and lands on a Leathery mixture of Amber and soft Woods.
There’s no smokiness (like there is in Tuscan Leather), which probably allows this to be worn a bit easier.
Perfect that formal evening, where you may be in a public place.

INSULO by Jeroboam
A lovely mix of Vanilla, Musk and White Florals. A simple blend that has a sweet Gourmand quality.
The musk and florals (mainly Jasmine) tone down the sweetness a bit and balance the scent perfectly.
This reminds of the guys who used to sit out the front of my office building, selling freshly roasted chestnuts. It’s the amazing smell of the nuts that lures people in to buy and the same effect is replicated here in INSULO.

LES JEUX SONT FAITS by Jovoy Paris
We’re about to head into some genuine Aussie winter weather here this week with temperatures set to drop to 12 degrees celsius during the day. I know, how will I cope. Well by wearing this very befitting fragrance for this weather.
I’ve heard LJSF described as a Boozy scent and while Rum definitely contributes to the recipe, I find this to be more of a Woody, Spicy fragrance with a slight Green and Dried Fruit backbone. The Spices are dark with that Cumin and Coriander, similar to that of “Au Coeur Du Desert” by Tauer, which I happen to spray a few minutes ago.
The Booziness is there to balance the blend, but not to dominate as it can do in many other boozy fragrances.
Probably one of the least talked about from Jovoy but still a great release if you enjoy Woody Aromatics with Green and Boozy undertones. I certainly do.
