It’s International Women’s Day, which for those who don’t already know, is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights. And as we all know, female artists have historically been pushed aside, underpaid and ignored, unlike their male contemporaries. That is why it couldn’t give me greater pleasure to remind you that Georgia Flynn’s, ‘Making Music Merseyside’ photography exhibition opens tonight at 7pm @constellationsliverpool! Flynn is an extraordinarily talented young artist whose photography and short film work simply blew me away. So when she asked me to act as mentor and curate this new exhibition of works, I couldn’t have been happier. Why? It’s simple. I understand that not only women, but people of colour, the disabled, the LGBTQ community and those labelled as being from the “wrong side of the tracks” are often at best, not taken seriously. And at worst, ignored.
