I just smiled watching this cute video. Seriously how cute. (except for the part when I speak. ughh ) As for remembering, I thought back then maybe a catchy and difficult name would do, so even if you may not remember it, you can’t forget the name (like .. I remember people saying arrta kka ka dabra ..abra ca dabra ....ah!!! What Lies Behind the Sun 28Mar -23 Sep 2019 @Ithra Contemporary art exhibition ZamaKan Used as a symbol of space and time, al-talh also represents the desert. With its intertwined branches and their extended shadows, this glorious and lofty tree demonstrates an ability to endure the harshest of weathers. With time al-talh loses its leaves while remaining resilient with its thorns emerging as signs of strength. This tree has been historically closely associated with the desert’s heritage and the life of nomads regarding the environment that Bedouin thrive in. Zahrah Al-Ghamdi is interested in highlighting the impact that social and economic developments of the human species has had on the climate and the loss of habitat that so many other species are encountering including al-talh Al-Ghamdi chose to work on al-talh to reflect on notions of patience, persistence and resilience as it endures thirst and drought. The tree’s ability to source its needs through sophisticated mechanisms despite the strenuous conditions and the role it plays in purifying the air are acts of nature’s generosity and inner beauty that this work tackles. Al-Ghamdi is here offering us an ode to nature and a reminder of its power. The artist also draws a parallel between these thorny trees and graves, in the sense that graves are often located away from cities and its populations as these trees are, far off the beaten path binding the earth with their roots. Such are the bones of the dead, buried under the earth and between grains of sand, holding us together not only in mass, but in memory.
