The sky tried on pink this morning, the color of compassion and unconditional love. ▫️ Nice timing... just as I was reading about Job, who was pointing a finger at God for the hard circumstances of his life. Job’s friends weren’t helpful, in fact, they were pretty sure he had some secret sin causing his misfortune. Ahhh, but then spoke Elihu, who waited respectfully for the older ones to finish talking. ▫️ “Pay attention, Job, and listen to me;” said Elihu, “be silent, and I will speak... listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom... It is unthinkable that God would do wrong, that the Almighty God would pervert justice.... Do you think this is just, for you to say, ‘I am in the right, not God. Yet you ask him, ‘What profit is in it to me, and what do I gain by not sinning?’ ... “people cry out under a load of oppression; they plead for relief from the arm of the powerful. But no one says, ‘Where is God my maker, who gives songs in the night, who teaches us more than he teaches the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than birds of the sky?” ▫️ “Look up at the heavens and see,” Elihu told Job, “gaze at the clouds so high above you.... listen to this, Job; stop and consider God‘s wonders. Do you know how God controls the clouds and makes his lightning flash? Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?” Elihu poured out some wisdom for Job, who was calling a foul on God for not paying attention to his situation. Elihu knew better, as did Job ~ in due time ~ after hearing from God himself. ▫️ The color Pink stands for unconditional love and understanding, and is associated with giving and receiving care. ... that’s what Elihu was doing for Job in that point of the story. Job’s exasperation had him justifying *himself* rather than his holy Maker. ▫️ That’s the same Maker who designed this morning’s pink sky.
