I’ve been wanting to write about Khadi for a while now, especially with the proliferation of this type of Sarees on online retail spaces. Considering its history, Khadi should be revered for its rich cultural value. And yet, what you get now is vendors hawking every coarse cotton they get their hands on as Khadi Anything that looks imperfect, or uneven or slubby is immediately branded as Khadi, and when the source is questioned, you’re just asked to look at the texture of the fabric for assurance. I once asked an online vendor if the Saree she was advertising was Khadi Cotton or Silk, and she replied saying, Khadi is a different yarn altogether IT IS NOT. It makes my blood boil to know that there is such misinformation being passed on. Bought many years ago ( when wearing a saree everyday , on a regular basis was too far fetched an idea but I still used to buy , hoard , collect sarees! ) from a local khadi bhandar shop where I had actually gone to buy pure honey and this caught my eye!
