Holiday camp, full of activities and fun. Peace of mind knowing your children are wearing Identification, which includes.
Two contact names and mobiles, food allergies, and the name of the hotel or campsite, in case they get lost on a crowded beach. Be safe, not sorry. KIDS ID at ICE ID

Definite highlight of the @socalfoodallergy Food Freedom Summer Conference was getting to shake hands and chat with the man that is literally saving my son’s life. Dr. Randhawa has given our family hope when we had none. He has embraced an orphan disease when others would not. He has vowed to bring every child that is food allergic to remission. .
Dr. R dared to dream BIG. And that big dream is saving my son.
.
There are no appropriate words for my immense gratitude and thanks. No words that can ever adequately express ALL the things.
.
Dr. Randhawa, we are forever indebted to you.
It’s Allergy Awareness Week. So we’re posting tips for families living with food allergies. Tip #2 - let the allergies be known. This is especially important if you have a young child in daycare or preschool. Mark their food containers and bottles with their name and ideally a special allergy sticker. Vinyl stickers can be purchased worldwide through Etsy.com. #yumbox #lunchbox #healthylifestyle #allergyfriendly #allergyawareness #kidswithallergies #foodallergymom
These are SUCH disconcerting words when you have a toddler with food allergies.
.
This evening for dinner we had a meal we have successfully eaten 5 or 6 times. B has devoured it each time I’ve made it. Tonight, he put a single bite in his mouth and said “Mommy, my chicken is too spicy. Why did you put hot sauce on it?” The hairs on my neck immediately stood up.
.
Why am I freaking out on the inside in this moment?
.
This is a CLASSIC descriptor a toddler might use to try to tell an adult that they are having an allergic reaction. As personal back story, B was exposed to both cashew and mustard approximately 6 times before he had a severe reaction (gobbled it up, in fact!). B’s 7th exposure to cashew he had a two system reaction. Months later, B’s 7th exposure to mustard (I was still logging every food at this point) he spit out his dinner and said his teeth felt funny (small WIN that this was the first allergen he was able to identify for us before he consumed it). We had 6 full meals under our belt before a reaction for each item! This is our 6th time eating the meal we had tonight… I know that the company that produces the barbeque sauce we used also makes a mustard sauce (immediately I am wondering about accidental cross contamination). I also know we dosed pecans before dinner tonight which *should* be okay as we are on Day 4 but I am always on heightened alert dosing. Maybe B is getting sick and his immune system is responding poorly to pecans?
.
My mind is a like a hamster wheel of food related thoughts and correlations.
.
Enough suspense… B is TOTALLY fine.
.
Maybe his palate is changing. Maybe he didn’t want to eat his dinner tonight. Maybe he read Dragons Love Tacos before dinner (Spicy tacos!). There *is* actually chili’s in the barbeque sauce and maybe this bottle was stronger. Who knows. I will figure it out eventually. But tonight, who knows.
.
Shout out to all the allergy parents. You are all my Hero’s. This is journey is not easy. Not an allergy caregiver? Give one a hug. Their minds are rarely not a spinning wheel operating at a medium pace of anxiety.
.
Xx
Sometimes being a food allergy family means doing things a little bit differently. Like eating a picnic in the car before going into a museum or attraction because you can’t buy a sandwich in the cafe. To be fair this also helps save a few pennies and the food is much nicer than plastic wrapped sandwiches!!
