The annual Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism honours those who report the news – a craft I adore.
The awards were hosted at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC), which keeps kicking goals as world’s best event venue. Look how incredible the room looked!
Over 600 leading journalists from across the country attended.
The Gold Walkley went to Hedley Thomas (#queenslander) and Slade Gibson from The Australian. .
The event takes its place in the BCEC’s rollcall of now over 20,000 it has hosted, with more than 17.5 million guests and delegates through the doors since opening in 1995.
Congratulations to the management and staff who make the venue such a brilliant success for the city of Brisbane, and who make events such as the Walkleys absolute rippers. .
Bet you didn’t know the BCEC is ranked World’s Best Convention Centre by the Association Internationale des Palais de Congres (AIPC) holds around 1,200 events each year. That’s roughly 20 million meals since opening. .

A tough day at the office Flying to Rottnest island with the Electro.Aero team to promote the most advanced aeronautical electric engine in the world at West Tech Fest (#WTF) Wearing one of my brightest shirts to fit in with all the bright minds attending what is fast becoming an essential forum for leading global technologies - Dure journée au bureau Vol vers Rottnest island avec l’équipe d’Electro.Aero pour promouvoir le plus performant moteur pour avions électriques au monde a West Tech Fest
After taking a long break in the off season I got back onto the bike and with a bit of discomfort. So I decided to change things a bit for a saddle with a little bit more padding.
Today I went to @absolutemotionza to have this all sorted out with pressure mapping from #gebiomized in my shoes and also on the saddle.
After about 20 alterations and 4 different saddles the best one came out as the #SelleSMP Dynamic for my bum. The new saddle is slightly wider and has one more level padding up from my original saddle. With the pressure mapping we could capture all of the movements over a specific time and get the average result of pressure on the saddle.
Below is a picture of my position before the gebioMized fit. The saddle on the right is the final result after adjusting the cleats as well with pressure mapping in the soles. Now my bum can heal up a little bit from current sores and then we'll test the areas again.
This is definitely the way forward, testing can also be done at certain watts, like at FTP to see if you put down pressure differently.
I'm excited for this and hope to see you guys there soon!

It is hard to miss news of the several funding rounds recently raised by fintech startups in Africa.
After pulling in almost a third of total funding raised by startups on the continent in 2017, the hot streak for African fintech businesses has continued this year. Among recent big-ticket deals in 2018, Cellulant, a digital payments solution company, raised $47.5 million in one of the largest Series C rounds for a solely Africa-focused venture-funded company.
A primary reason fintech startups remain prominent on investors’ radar is the sheer necessity of the work they do in plugging gaps in financial services in Africa. While in more developed economies, fintech startups focus on disrupting the already existing banking industry, in Africa, they are typically building technical infrastructure and systems from scratch.
The fundamental importance of the services these startups provide—from powering payments, facilitating savings, ensuring financial inclusion for the unbanked to tackling access to credit for small businesses and individualsamong others—underlines why the sector holds long-term appeal for investors. In doing this, these startups are also innovating solutions and creating specifically for local markets rather than strictly applying borrowed knowledge from Silicon Valley. MPesa’s success with mobile money and its impact on Kenya’s economy is an example of what’s possible as fintech startups create sustainable workarounds to solve local problems.
