Voice shouting from the distance: “Get out of the road now girls” Me: “Okay. Sorry.” “No, not you, the burros” Me: “Oh, okay.” Ensued one of the most long lasting laughing fit between @Erikaexplores and I and a running inside joke that we keep on texting each other without any context. And it never fails to make me laugh. Erika and I met at a @leicauk event only a couple of months ago and instantly bonded over our love of travel (and bubble tea and red wine). When the occasion arose that I could bring someone to help me drive and share an adventure from New Mexico to California for a project with @hertzroadtrip, I thought she’d be perfect for it and I’m so glad she could make it on such short notice. I booked her flight on a Sunday and on the following Tuesday night, we were reunited in Albuquerque, New Mexico, picked up our rental car at Hertz and shared a meal at Burger King. I took the chicken and she took the fries. Ideal. Then, as we drove along, woke up for sunrises after sunrises and saw more phallic rocks than anyone ever needs to see in their lifetime (the South West is the most phallic place in the world) we also got to know each other more and more and our bond grew stronger. Travel isn’t always pretty, sometimes you just are so intensely tired that it’s hard to carry on. During this journey, I’ve been an absolute overwhelmed rollercoaster of emotions and I can’t be thankful enough to have had a friend like Erika with me to go through it all. And now I know that there’s nothing a randomly thrown “let’s share a bottle” or burning some sage whilst looking at the stars can’t cure. Here’s to making some more amazing memories with our friends, and always living for the story. *shot on #leicam10p #leicauk
