How to develop your own lettering style️⁣ ⁣⁣ Having your own lettering style is a process that doesn't happen in a click, it's a learning curve & takes some time⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Today I'm sharing with you some ideas & tips that you can implement to style up your lettering⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So, basically you can change the following:⁣ Width: letters may vary from wide to narrow ⁣⁣ Shape: letters can be oval or angular ⁣⁣ Angle: letter can be written upright ⁣or slanted (any angle) ⁣ Ascender/descender shape: can be straight⁣ or loopy⁣ Space: letters can go as closed or spaced as you like ⁣ Connection: you can leave letters separated or connect them⁣ Baseline: you can go regular or bouncy⁣ on the baseline⁣ Design: you can design your letters to be as simple or as flourished⁣ as you like⁣ Type: you can stick to lower case letters or mix it up with some uppercase letters⁣ ⁣⁣ You can also, ⁣⁣ Change the letter style itself and either choose a favorite or mix up different styles of each letter ⁣⁣ I chose "s" because it holds lots of styles⁣ Some other letters that imply much variations include: r, f, t (cross bar) beside ascenders & descenders as well⁣ ⁣⁣ A mix & match from the above options will produce different lettering styles. You may have experiment to find the style you desire ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣One thing you need to keep in mind whatever style you develop is LEGIBILITY!!! Because there's no point in having a beautiful lettering but others are struggling to read, right! ‍♀️ ⁣ ⁣ On a side note,⁣ Not all these apply if you're doing calligraphy like copperplate, spencerian etc ... Because calligraphy is less flexible and implies strict rules like a specific slant, same interspace, oval letters etc... You can add flourishes, you can change the width of a letter but keep it consistent through your piece! En uno de mis talleres, mientras explicaba lo del típico solecito @lettering_stationery me platicó este truco de usar papel traslúcido para ver mejor dónde quedan las sombras y me pareció excelente y hasta ahora lo comparto. ✍ Mi capa superior es la letra a la cual le quiero aplicar la sombra y la capa inferior es la sombra. Siempre deben de quedar del lado contrario la fuente de luz y la sombra. Si el sol está a la izquierda.: la sombra a la derecha ☀️ ➡️. La confusión está cuando el sol está más en diagonal. Si el sol está en una esquina superior derecha:. La sombra está del lado inferior izquierdo ↙️☀️ . Traten de hacer ustedes el ejercicio. Y me dicen si ayuda o confunde más. . Monday is in full swing ✍

Last week I met and spoke with some amazing lettering artists from all around the world! From Russia to even LA. It was pretty stinking amazing! I’m so glad I did the office hours. I was able to share what I’ve learned in this business and even learn something from these other artists. . . I think the biggest challenge I saw was that it’s a struggle to be an entrepreneur but also a lettering artist. It’s a tough business! Instagram just shows the highlights of the business and not the lows. So although my Instagram is pretty there’s a lot of ugly stuff going on in the background. A lot of worries, fears, late nights etc. But you better believe I like a challenge and I won’t stop going after my dreams! ✨ my parents taught me we could achieve anything we wanted and so here I am. Going after it. So to all of you struggling in this business... just keep going! I always say if you have big dreams the road will be more tough. So don’t feel down that you haven’t reached your goals. You just have bigger goals that take a little bit more work
