Friday Post! Girls on the runway! ✨We are BEYOND proud of not only our beautiful ladies at the farm but also our farm team for having an incredible classification! For those of you who don't know what classification is... Classification evaluates each individual animal broken down into five major categories… front end and body capacity, dairy strength, rump, feet and legs, and udder. Each trait is assigned a 1-100 score. Data is collected for official pedigree, marketing, and genetic improvement. We strive to breed Very Good and Excellent cows to rank Arethusa Farm amongst the best herds in the country!

Āyurvedic Herbology is a beautiful system (and arguably the most comprehensive) for conceptualizing formulas + delivery systems. I have to be honest that my western herbal training has enhanced this tremendously as it is vital to learn about plants in our own local hemisphere + how they can co-exist medicinally with botanicals native to the east. Planetary Herbology by Michael Tierra is a favorite read that describes system linkages. Both systems are a high art and truly a *lifetime* course of study to engage in with deep reverence. The pop culture sensationalism currently imbued with herbalism is both a blessing (light is cast on natural healing alternatives) and a curse (well intended humans with out proper course of studies end up causing harm due to lack of vital knowledge). Certain herbs I know intimately well...others I would never touch or work with in my scope of practice. Most beloved realms to me are herbs related to mental health (no surprise there ), women’s health + hormones, + gut health/digestion!

There are many different ways to prepare Āyurvedic herbs...here are 8 common methods:
1. Svarasa (Extracting juice from leaves, flowers, and tender stems)
2. Cūrna (Plant parts are dried and then pulverized into a powder)
3. Kvātha (Decoction where woody parts of plant are boiled + filtered)
4. Kalka (Paste made from ground plant matter + water)
5. Phānta (Hot infusion)
6. Śita Kasāya (Cold infusion)
7. Ksira Pāka (Filtered Milk preparation)
8. Taila + Ghrta (Herbal infused oil or ghee) ————————————————————————
