Last year I arrived in Berlin with no money, a new album and a pink guitar. . Since then I haven’t stopped playing; back to London, then to Bali. . I returned on different terms, but still with my guitar on my back. It’s been a good reminder of how far I’ve come, and how much music I’ve made since. . The gig was at Madame Claude’s, a David Lynch inspired venue where the furniture was stuck to the ceiling. . I played late after a very ‘Berlin’ outfit which involved heavy synth, aggressive guitar, occasional screaming, out of tune ukulele solos and excellent use of a shaker. . Holding a room of strangers in a foreign city is such a thrill, and an example of the power of music. . Afterwards, many bought CD’s; I was ‘interviewed’ by some excited musicians from Sweden; and some of the audience saw me on the street later and hugged me with congratulations in French. . On Saturday I borrowed fellow SA musician and legend @bummelakiezi’s amp, who I had busked with last time. . I played all the favourite spots, from the East Side Gallery to Hackesher Markt, to Admiralbrucke. . Despite being stopped by the polizei earlier in the day I played on and my final busk was one to remember: . A bridge with the sun setting behind me and about fifty people in front; hanging out and drinking German beer - a natural audience. . An audience that respects buskers as musicians, and listens closely. . You can tell this because the intensity of the music increases, each note has more weight. . Playing on that bridge was perfect, the music came from the surroundings, and I was hearing it for the first time. . It’s moments like those that I’m looking for. . On the street, in the studio or in a venue. .
