Sofia’s sleep update! It’s been a long time since I updated you on how she is sleeping. As you know, she shifted from 2 to 1 naps at 13 months, regularly, after a month of transition. The shift is detailed on the blog, but FYI not all babies transition so early, it can be anytime from 12-18 months. But as always, I followed her lead. And she needed this change! Since then (for 4 months straight, she is about to turn 17) her one nap has been amazing, an average of 2.5h of great deep sleep, exactly what she should get, she typically does 12pm to 2:30pm sharp (babies from 12 to 18 months need from 2 to 3h of daytime sleep). Anyways, naps are incredible now, I thought I wouldn’t: but I actually DO prefer the 1 long nap versus two shorter ones because it makes planning the day & day outings easier, and working & being productive during her nap much easier too. Plus, if we fly or drive anywhere over 2h, it gives us the full trip (or a big chunk of a it) of sleep. Which makes traveling easier in that sense too. What has been more inconsistent is the night sleep. But it typically has to do with teething, which she has been teething nonstop lately, with 15.5 teeth at the moment. Teething not only makes her wake up often through the night but also wake up extra early. Every damn time she is teething she wakes at 4/5am to start the day and weirdly she’s perfectly fine through the day (energy and mood wise). But less sleep + a ball of energy = makes mama extra tired! She’s also pushed her night sleep from 7p sharp to 8:30ish, which also makes the night work and unwinding much more difficult and tiring. The days she’s not teething, she does get her full 10.5-11h of night sleep needed, waking at 7am as always. But not the days she is teething. I am confident that as soon as she’s done teething (4.5 more teeth to go!) she’ll be more of a regular night sleeper. Or at least I keep repeating that to myself, hah.
