Critique of the healthcare system aside, being sick, getting old, and dying are some of the hardest, realest parts of being human. They ask of us certain acknowledgement and presence, they push us to respond with grace and caring when all we want to do is scream and throw things and succumb to the darkness ourselves. When we can see it, and sit with it, and listen to it, and deal with it, we can learn things. We can look for light in the darkness. And most importantly, we can heal. Love you, momma. . . .
