View of the Grove of the Baths of Apollo in the gardens of Versailles. Dated: 1713, by Pierre-Denis Martin. ⠀ (en) Arranged in 1704 in the gardens of Versailles, the new grove of the Baths of Apollo hosted the marble groups that had been made for the cave of Tethys, destroyed in 1684 during the elevation of the North Wing of the Castle: Apollo served by the nymphs, by Girardon and  Regnaudin, and the two groups of Horses of the Sun, by Guerin and Marsy brothers. These significant sculptures were sheltered under frail canopies of golden lead. Opening on the parterre du Nord, the grove was very close to the castle. ⠀ (fr) Aménagé en 1704 dans les jardins de Versailles, le nouveau bosquet des Bains d’Apollon accueillit les groupes de marbre qui avaient été réalisés pour la grotte de Téthys, détruite en 1684 lors de l’élévation de l’Aile du Nord du Château: Apollon servi par les nymphes, de Girardon et Regnaudin, et les deux groupes des Chevaux du Soleil, de Guérin et des frères Marsy. Ces sculptures importantes furent abritées sous de frêles baldaquins de plomb doré. Photo by @uffizigalleries (en) This cradle is a triumph of pearls and gold filigree with a large baroque pearl as a blanket for the child, which is made of a smaller pearl, engraved with the features of the face. The kid lies on a pillow in gold, surrounded by diamonds with black and white enamel embroidery. The cradle swings on two feet in gold. The jewel was made in 1695 by a Dutch goldsmith. On the back of the cradle the inscription "AUGUROR EVENIAT" ("foreshadowing of the event") drawn with gold thread reveals that the jewel was a precious gift made by the Johann Wilhelm II, Elector Palatine to hiswife Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici as a form of wish for the announced birth of a son and heir that unfortunately never arrived. ⠀ (ru) Эта колыбель - триумф жемчуга и золотой филиграни с большим барочным жемчугом в качестве одеяла для ребенка, который сделан из меньшего жемчуга, выгравированного с особенностями лица. On sait qu'il a préféré habiter le Château-Vieux, où ses chambres ont été reconstruites par Le Brun et Le Vau. Le1 er mars 1672, après la mort à Saint-Germain de Marie-Thérèse de France, fille de France, la Petite Madame, la cour quitte le lieu triste et s'enfuit littéralement à Versailles. Depuis lors, Saint-Germain King n’a visité que de temps en temps, par exemple à Pâques. Le Château Neuf a été en 1650 le lieu de refuge de Charles II Stuart après l'exécution de son père. Louis XIV prêta en effet le Château-Vieux et le Château-Neuf à Jaques II Stuart (roi exilé d'Angleterre, d'Irlande et d'Écosse) à la fin du XVIIe siècle. ⠀ (en) The Sun King was born in Saint-Germain in 1638 and spent there, from 1666, most of the first years of his personal reign, before his installation at Versailles in 1682.
